Hey all

Im being sworn in on June 28th in Vancouver and leaving for BMQ on July 16th. I was wondering if anyone could give me some details about what exactly is entailed in the swear in process. I know that it is formal dress but can I be expected to be sworn in with like 10 other ppl, or 100. Also, My information package says that family can come watch the proces. I have about 6 family members that want to come, would that still be considered acceptable

thanks

I am swearing in the same day in vancouver, not sure what time you are being sworn in, but they do usually try to schedule more than one person and do a group from what i hear. Not usually as big as 100 though, id probably say its safe to say between 10 - 20. You can call your file manager and they will advise if 6 will be ok. I am bringing 3 myself and they had no problem with that, when i called and confirmed.  Also not sure if officer's are sworn in differently than ncm's? I doubt it, but dont know for sure.

cool, thanks a lot

if you dont mind PM me with your real name and such, maybe I will see you there. and for the record, I am an NCM and I swear in at 11 o clock

Basically, you put your hand on a bible (if you so chose to go that route), repeat after the officer, receive a handshake, and welcomed into the Canadian Forces.  At least that was my experience when I was sworn into the Reserves.  Mine was done alone, but I imagine it depends on how many are scheduled to be sworn in on the same date.  It probably won't be a 100, but I would suspect there will be a few being done at the same time.  I have no idea if it is an individual swear in, or if its done as a whole group, but I would assume it is done individually.

I, ……………, do Solemnly swear (affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors according to law, forever. So help me God.

A person may choose to replace the word "swear" with "affirm" and to omit the phrase "So help me God." This person is also given the option of "swearing" on a bible or not.

Thanks Stealthy

I assume the Reg Force swear in is the same as the reserves. Im starting to get really excited, 10 Days till Im officially in the Canadian Forces

It's reeaaaaaaaaaaaaly long. I was there for 3 hours. First hour was all forms. It only took about 5 minutes or less to actually do the swearing in part - you repeat like two sentences. Then we were fitted for our gear which took up the rest of the night.

I was sworn in with 3 other guys. There was one parent there. My dad was going to stay but the OCdt told him we'd be a while and he's better off leaving and coming back if he had a problem with staying - and knowing my dad, 10 minutes is too long for anything.

3 hours isnt to far off, i was told to be there at 9am on the 28th and my guests are to arrive at 11am.

9:00 am? That's really early. I didn't show up until 6:50pm and actually got sworn in at around 7:00 pm.

Anyway, I had nightmare after nightmare lastnight. I woke up probably 4 different times throughout the night. It was brutal. But this isn't the place to discuss this [Laughs]

Brett, did you swear in at a reserve unit?

if so, that is likely why yours was so late, the actual Recruiting office in Vancouver is only open from like 8:30 to 4:30

yeah... but my unit is open 830 - 3, tuesday nights till 10.

and my rc in hamilton is opened same time as yours.
