Hello,

I have the completed papers for ROTP 2011 as a Nursing Officer (NO) and they are sitting right in front of me. This means I am applying to the REG force.  I am currently entering 2nd year Civy U as a Nursing Student.  The major problem is I am having doubts as a career in the CF as a nurse.  I would like to, perhaps even prefer to apply ( and hopefully be accepted), to the Infantry. My recruiter told me that there was "no point in apply for another trade as you have 2  years invested in nursing by the time you apply for ROTP" - geeze thanks for the vote of confidence.

Another hiccup is that I am currently reviewing my status as an officer, and maybe wish to join the CF as a NCM.

I know it sounds like I am being immature, but this is a very important decision in my life. I am 110% committed to joining the CF and I am turning to you guys/girls, as this is a rather sensitive topic here at home.

In summary I am looking for some guidance or stories from individuals who were in similar situations to aid me in my decision.

Thanks for you time.

Stevey.

So, the CF is willing to pay for the last two years of your Nursing degree and you want to join as an Infantry Officer or NCM?  Don't bother with the ROTP application.  Finish your degree and then join.

No one can make this decision for you. You have to weigh the pros and cons respectively. Conversely, ask yourself without thought, "What is it I want to do?" If you go against what it is you really want to do, you'll probably regret it.

As for the recruiter, I'm not sure on the reality behind it, but it felt to me a bit like they had to fill a quota. They suggested I take a trade different than the one I took on several occasions. They can only suggest though, the decision rests with you. Good luck.

Really and you base that observation on your many years of service and experience in recruiting?

Stevey, I think you are doubting your career choice of Nursing not just being a Nurse in the CF.  Take the advice given on here, including mine, with a block of salt, search the many threads on here, talk with your CFRC, and then make up your mind what you want to do.  Good Luck.

No, I did not.

As stated, it was an impression I based on how "it felt to me" [going through the process]. I also stated that I was unsure as to the reality of the situation behind the scenes - given I don't have many years of service and experience in recruiting. There seems, as evident by the OP's statement, certain anecdotal support for this impression. Nurses certainly are in demand everywhere.

I was relating a similar experience I had, and how the choice is ultimately his, not the recruiters.

Fair enough.
