Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

Canada deserves another 4 years of Liberal leadership. We'll see what we actually end up getting.

Of course we do ;)

Desperate for an election.
I just read through the decision, it was interesting and cleanly written. https://cdn.cyberimpact.com/clients...n motion T-60-25 MacKinnon et al_ v_ AGC .pdf

The parties have a tight schedule to get their affidavits in. There will be an oral hearing on the 13th and 14th of Feb, with any resultant replies due NLT the 18th.

The argument being made is that this prorogation is being done solely for the benefit of the Liberal Party. With a literal existential threat now in the White House, it's hard not to recognize that the lack of a functioning parliament is not in the nation's best interests.

Corollary, and I don’t know the answer to this but I’ll throw it out for smarter people to consider: Could an executive branch in election caretaker mode effectively respond to this?

I don't think ive seen a functional parliament in about 15 years, just dysfunction and bickering

I recently watched a video on some of this stuff (he rules as they written in law)
-Yes governments can prorogue for various reasons (with GG approval), only existing laws and bills (with royal ascent) may be allowed to continue, UNTIL End March. Then we have to have a bill passed for a supply motion (automatically a confidence vote), either bill gets approved and FY 2025=26 ges ahead OR we got an election (and a special warrant from the GG allows current existing monies to be paid)
-If they prorogue PAST end March, there is literally no approval for funding
-While in proguement, NO NEW bills or acts may be passed and I believe OIC are very limited in nature

Actually I remember a functioning parliament between 2011-2015.

OHHHH Wait! The conservatives cheated the public out of a glass of $16 orange juice. SHAME ON THEM!

they would have to wouldnt they? The PM is still the PM. Who is going to restrict it?
Can Parliament be recalled during an election?
What would happen if we(or the UK etc.) were invaded or declared war on during an election?
Perhaps the LOO would be brought in?

Well there was also McKay using a SAR chopper to pick him up from a fishing trip, two contempt of parliament rulings by the speaker in 2011, Afghan detainee scandal, robo call scandal after the 2011 election, and lets not forgot a lawyer for the government at the time saying they had no obligation to veterans, among other things. No government is ever innocent we just chose to ignore somethings.

Enumerate all the things provincial governments can do, and that the federal government can do without needing the House to sit to pass something - call it List 1. Enumerate all the things requiring the House to sit - call it List 2.

Start working on List 1 and if anyone complains that List 2 is held up, direct them to List 1.

Yes but I wasn’t talking about prorogue. I was talking about the caretaker convention.

so MP's are no longer MP's once dissolved so theres no calling them back but Ministers are still Ministers and the PM is still PM
we dont seem to have had a lot of situations worth commenting on
Joe Clark refused to sign the Hornet contract during the election
and a Harper Minister Lawrence Cannon consulted with the opposition prior to Libya talks

edit a more in depth discussion with a few more examples
