Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Floor crossings are usually rewarded with being voted out the following election, so I doubt we'll see much movement there.
Greedily rubbing hands together waiting for floor crosses is just a Liberal partisan daydream. There was no floor crossing in 10 years of scandal ridden government even after some vocal rebukes of government policy towards Israel by Housefather and others.

To think a CPC member, hot off the highest vote count and percentage of popular vote in decades, or a NDP member who is desperately trying to rebuild credibility in their party as only their deep strongholds won, will cross the floor is absolute lunacy.

Agreed. There's no need for floor crosses anyways. The Libs have the NDP by the balls and anything the NDP won't budge on can be pitched to the Tories or BQ for concessions. The real topic of interest with this government will be cabinet announcements tomorrow and then what is in the Throne Speech. I for one am looking for to the Speech, as it'll be a historic moment. I believe only the third time the Sovereign themselves has delivered it.

Agree 1000% on the blue (unless the red-ist of Tories thinks they can do better elsewhere, depending on how the leadership thing goes), but it would only take a more-moderate member or two of Team Orange to put "they're close enough to work with" ahead of trying to revive a party from being reduced to a small bus load to work. Not saying the odds are high, but I'd say way more than zero, and higher than Blues hopping the fence.

Then again, if only a tiny group of people are pissed off enough to leave, the larger group would be statistically be more likely to have those outliers, but I'd bet on Orange defections way more likely to happen over Blue, for now.

TONS of angsty whining on social media about the single vote flip in Terrebonne. As you would expect it’s bringing out some of the smoothest of brains that have access to keyboards. Run elections enough times and eventually something will end up with a one vote margin.
The problem with narrow results for single ridings/districts that flip between first and subsequent counts is when a bunch of them line up one way to make a big difference (eg. between a win or loss, or a minority and majority). The perception of unlikelihood is bound to raise some eyebrows.

Just like "mistakes" all made in the same direction. At some point the questions needs to be asked and the matters investigated.

Floor crossers should get punched in the nose. It's a dirtbag move that prioritizes selfishness over the constituents.

The ultimate reckoning for floor crossing is the next election.
Not a very good reckoning, $800,000 in salary later.

Someone crossing the floor should at least trigger a by election. You can see how much people still vote for someone 'cause they're a good guy'.

Heads up -- starting to migrate the AB separatist/secessionist discussion here ...
... so please be patient while we move stuff. Thanks!

You’re a good man, I don’t care what the others say about you.

With Carney expected to appoint Secretaries of State to handle specific files, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to create a Secretary of State for Defence Procurement. It probably won’t be a full independent department and will still rely heavily on Public Services and Procurement Canada, Department of National Defence, Treasury Board, etc. for support, but at least there will be a central, dedicated team leading the issue and a single point of accountability for defence procurement.

If the constituents had wanted someone from that party, they would have elected the candidate for that party in the first place. Crossing the floor is essentially a betrayal of their riding.
