Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

If we are in the business from buying shit from our enemies, let's consider the J35 beside the F35 shall we?
No, too far lol. One year of the Orange Mad King is not a reason to throw out 100 yrs it just requires some tapdancing that IMO neither Trudeau or Poilievre were capable of

@ Altair - Prior to this Greenland move my hope was that we bought as many 35's as reasonably possible while still having the horsepower to pursue the Saab deal.

The 35 is undeniably the better plane, and short of an absolutely worst case scenario we're not fully decoupling from the US.

Saab/ Sweden need a patron with some financial and diplomatic weight, we need technical expertise. It's a good match with some seriously ambitious potential.
I'm happy to note I was team Gripen before it was cool.

But I'm happy people here, and 72 percent of the Canadian public, are coming along to the idea.

What, his first term didn't count? And his acolytes who have taken over the Republican party won't just continue his nonsense next time they are in power, assuming the Democrats can take the time to get their collective heads out of their asses to actually win an election?

We have seen the signal chat, they people talk like this even when he's not in the room. Vance, Miller, noem, they aren't just playing along to get along, they are MAGA through and through and any assumptions this ends with trump is naivety at best.

i think its fair to say that this term is qualifiably different from the first term yes.
I think PMMC goes as slow as hes possible on these things to buy as much time as he can. Im going to guess that we need to put an F35 order in at some point this year to continue some sort of sensible roll out

Should we buy our fighter jets based on what the population wants?

Espeically when 44% of said population was somehow unaware the government was releasing a budget?
Because if you ignore the public you end up like Trudeau or Poilievre.

Again, Carney didn't need to make a deal with China.

But there was a business case and it's what the population wanted.

Lo and behold, he did exactly that.

Carney has done a decent job of doing what the voters in polls say they want, and 72 percent of the public wanting the Gripen is a hard number to ignore

72 percent of the public want some form of Gripen purchase.

13 percent want just the F35.

Lets see what Carney does here, but I think he follows the public. Especially if it's a easy win in Quebec

Setting up online polling websites to dictate our defence procurement decisions is a great idea. Cuts out the middle man. It's true democracy when you think of it.

Pretty clever of Saab not to mention just how many aircraft we would need to.fulfill their 10'000 job promise. 72 Gripens and 6 GlobalEyes, easy peasy.
I'm not sure how Brazil got away with 10'000 jobs for only 36 Gripens. They must work harder than us?

America seems to be the only one Carney cant get a deal from, and he has stated he wont sign a deal thats not in our interest. Tells me america is trying to work us over rather then give us a fair deal.

QV is trying to normalize this.

"Oh, the USA has tried to acquire Greenland for a long time, this is normal"

No, it's not. The US has tried to acquire Greenland, and then when politely told that the Danes and Greenlanders were not interested, moved on.

Trump is escalating, which is NOT normal and not trolling.

Trolling is saying, man, Greenland would look good with the stars and stripes. Trolling is not, give me Greenland or else I'll take it, or I'll move to cripple your economy if you resist. That's coercion.

That all said, coming from a rapist, I'm not surprised he doesn't know how to take no for an answer.
Was he trying to normalize it though?

Or was he simply stating a general fact?

(Btw if anybody wants to know and doesn't feel like Googling it, the US first inquired about/offered to buy Greenland as far back as 1867...)

That's right. Carney's trade deal trip to the UK was really just a recce.

Ekos is a pretty reputable polling firm.

And again, I'll circle back. The majority of people here were dead agaisnt more trade with China. The public was more on board with trade with China.

Carney decided to trade more with China.

And trade with China was even less popular than the Gripen.

So what does Carney do? Side with those in the military or army.ca? Or go where 72 percent of the population is?

May be best to prepare yourself if you consider his track record.

Please tell me the last time the USA refused to take military action off the table to acquire Greenland or put tariffs on allies for not helping the USA to acquire Greenland.

I'll wait.

Trump hasn't signed a ratified deal with anyone. Even the EU deal, which was very unlikely to pass the EU parliament is all but dead today. The UK deal just got tariffs tacked on to it

The USA is absolutely not interested in any deal with anyone. They are interested in extortion.

However people did want something done about canola tariffs. That required trade with china

Could be. Or could be Carney follows the mood of the public

Carbon tax unpopular.

Gone.

Trade with China popular.

Done

Feminist PM doctrine unpopular.

Gone

Public wanting a pipeline to the coast.

MOU done.

I would be surprised if Carney is seeing 72 percent of the public wanting the Gripen in some form and just going...nah, I'm siding with that juicy 13 percent.

The part of me whose life would be on the line in a warzone doesn't give a shit what a bunch of facebook and reddit experts across Canada want for military equipment.

The "I pay your salary, those are my tax dollars!" part of says let the voters decide. If they want submarines made by ocean gate then full send.

Go with the voters.

Carney probably will, and he's PM so he's doing something right.
