Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

The Liberals really don't want Canadians to see the numbers.
They dont eh?

This isn't hiding the numbers, they don't want to rush the budget, Carney strikes me as being very deliberate well planned, and crafted plans. I suspect the federal budget we will get will be extremely detailed in order to accomplish his plan.

The US is in the middle of various tariff "pauses", negotiations and court challenges. In Canada we're in the middle of various discussions between the Feds and the Provinces on major changes to internal trade policies and potential major infrastructure investments. NATO is meeting to discuss defence expenditures, etc.

How do you present a budget with any level of certainty with all these balls in the air? I'm personally willing to give PMMC the benefit of the doubt for a couple of months at least to see where the dust settles before I start screaming for firm details.

(BTW I voted Conservative in this past (and previous) federal elections.)

Nope.

The Liberal government promised a deficit of no more than $40B and then hit us with an extra $22B. Not even a sorry not sorry. They dont respect citizens.

They don't get a reset on the old trust meter because they have a new face.

Carney strikes me as being very deliberate well planned, and crafted plans.
That's why he wasn't even going to table a fall budget then changed his mind? Or had drastically different messaging on using emergency measures?

I suspect the federal budget we will get will be extremely detailed in order to accomplish his plan.
I'd expect someone with his CV could sort out the numbers a little sooner than maybe October. We'll see if it's classic obfuscation or not.

No budget this year is unacceptable. A fall budget is reasonable.

Main estimates are out and published.

People should calm down. There will surely be something else to legitimately criticize the gvt over in due time.

There are always balls in the air. It's not an excuse.
There's this:

And then there's this:

I think the World in currently more like the latter and that to my mind deserves a little more leeway.

Holding Carney to the promise made by a previous PM doesn't make sense either, during the election, Carney gave us a costed plan that the majority of canadians voted for. Comparing him to the old plan doesn't hold much weight

its not that they weren't they turned the fall economic update into a full budget, so there was always going to be a budget of sorts

someone with his CV isn't going to rush things because at the end of the day he doesn't want his ministers to rush things, he wants it done right, not quick

"I think" amounts to "making up the data". "We think this is too difficult, so we're not going to do it" is a timeless, unquantified, and meaningless excuse.

Convenient that it can be spun either way. When convenient, claim he's competent and will solve our problems quickly. When convenient, claim he's prudent and we should wait.

Really depends on the issue at the end of the day, does it require a quick decision yes or no?

Its easy! You don't release a budget. But you make sure that the Main Estimates are the talking points for your members and your media.

And then you put off the budget until the fall, maybe... Probably... we hope so...

The song and dance of the spring budget bill is relatively new. The Main Estimates are the initial spending plan for the year. Always have been.

Maybe reasonable. A good percentage of Canadian's seem to want one sooner. Given the Liberal's fiscal history it's not an unrealistic demand. Especially with Carneys much talked about CV, IMO.

Does it matter big picture? No, not really. If the Liberals don't table a budget this fall there will be no shortage of people making excuses. "Non-binding" motions in Parliament are a joke. Just theater.

Main estimates are out and published.
Sure. But again we've seen how the LPC handles money.

People should calm down.

I'm waiting for Carney to make good on his "sacrifices have to be made" comments. I'm no millionaire businessman but I'm confident when CEOs talk about making sacrifices it's usually bottom up.

To lots of us I'm sure its just an uninformed way to bitch about the gubermint.

Perhaps it may be time to consider moving away from just doing things the way we always have.

FYI, just moved the more "here's how FNs should work and why" stuff to this thread, and kept the "current gov't should keep an eye on FNs for development" stuff here.

How many of said communities have a contract of sorts signed by the Crown saying, "hey, don't sweat - let us use the land and we'll take care of you?"
I know.

Eventually an eighteenth-century solution to protect fur trading monopolies is going to blow up. Big problems are best solved while they are still small. An approximately hereditary landlord class of citizens is abominable. An approximately hereditary landlord class of citizens whose economic opportunities and standards of living depend heavily on the tenant class of citizens is abominable. Having privileges that can be exercised only by remaining tied to a particular area is, when the area is a relative economic desert, a trap which is abominable.

How much was getting pulled up from the stone age to the renaissance age, then the industrial age, and now the space age, worth? What value has modern medicine alone?

The problem here is that people approach the situation as if land is worth everything and technology and social and political advances are worth nothing. They've already been taken care of, and more.
