Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Both, but I see this as a positive result of Carneys leadership
You certainly do enjoy the koolaid. Carney didn't do a damn thing. The sales people from every affected industry have been frantically going through their rolodexes calling all the purchasing agents around the world trying to make sales. Obviously they have been successful so far and that is good but it is also to be expected. we have great resources, reasonably priced and mostly free from bribes and extortion. If you want to congratulate anyone, send an Email to Trump. Industries world-wide are looking for alternatives to America.

So delaying counter tariffs so Canadian companies can find alternatives is nothing? The Duties relief program, and Duties drawback program are nothing? Deferring Corporate income tax payments is nothing? More funding to regional development agencies to help small and medium businesses find those new markets is nothing? There's no cool aid here, a win is a win because that's exactly what this is for the government. Yes there was a lot of hard work in board rooms, aided by the GoC making it easier, especially for small and medium businesses that don't have their own resources to do this.

Habemus interim ducem!

Habemus interim ducem!

I will be interested to see if he ditches The Jenny
And if he can pivot and have that recognized by the Canadian people.

Scheer is just a caretaker and he's a solid experienced parliamentarian ste for the job.

Those would both point to a desire to shift away from "nothing but attack dog" mode - we'll see.

Agreed.

Dont forget, amongst those who suffer TDS, a loss is the Liberals fault and a win is not the Liberals win.

not really. Delaying a payment for 60 days does little to help a corporate bottom line. the Trade commission was set up 3 or 4 years ago and is no longer taking applications for many of its services. The Development Bank appears to cover many of the issues that you are crediting to the Feds and most of the programmes to which you refer were set up years ago. they have simply been topped up a bit which is good. Carney has certainly made sure that people could see that Ottawa was working hard but that is a public relations success. The credit should go to the Trudeau era government who set up most of the programmes in the first place. Carney has yet to provide long-term help such as a cut in the business tax rate

Cut business taxes is the easy button, and never produces the investment it promises. Just look at the Harper years, there is little correlation between the cuts to business tax rate and investment. Same when the Harper gov increased it to the current 26.5%, we didn't see any major change in investment. Changing a tax rate alone is not a solution. It's just something simple that everyone understands.

They have ambition.
They didn't manage to add many to Freeland's ballot, but PP draws the eye in a different way, don't he?
We should maybe unlock the CPC leadership thread.
If he loses the by-election, I suspect we will - unless someone else wants to fall on their sword :)

Some good will there. Let’s hope the other provinces follow suit
MB is well situated for the next century in terms of resources. There are deposits of 30 of the 34 recognized critical minerals and the Northern First Nations are looking like they want to play ball on resource development. What I want to see from the province is a recognition of the mistakes of resource booms past in Canada and not just be a raw exporter, but require a certain amount need to be refined and value-added here. Hopefully the new free trade zone in Winnipeg can help with that.

Wab Kinew continues to impress. I look forward to seeing him in federal politics in due course.

I like his approach here of bringing specific projects to the table, saying they’re ready to promptly leverage Carney’s promised assessment processes to get things going.

An interesting one here is the trucking corridor- Manitoba’s almost completely twinned already, so he’s talking about the twinning of Highway 17 around Lake Superior and east from the Soo to Arnprior. Parts of this are underway but it’s a huge project. Let’s watch for him and Ford to speak jointly on this.
