As it's the 25th anniversary of the Walkerton drinking water contamination crisis, discussion of human sewage (or cow shit run off in Walkerton's case) discharged into the water source is appropriate. It wasn't the shit in the community well that was the culprit (that should have been expected), it was the poor processes in Walkerton's water treatment plant that led to the deaths and illnesses. Billions of litres of sewage into the St. Lawrence (or Lake Ontario), while distasteful, is easily cleaned by conventional water treatment. Thousands of litres of oil spilled into the water source, on the other hand, has the potential to make the water source unusable for years/decades/permanently.

The last time (energy east) a company tried to get a pipeline approved, they refused to provide the information required by the Federal environmental review board on how they were going to safeguard the drinking water. They simply pulled their request for authorization instead and then, blamed Quebec for the denial.

Meet that safe crossing requirement and then, you'll see that Quebecers (the majority, not the eco-nuts) are not the obstacle they are made to be.

Carney did not use those warrants.

The Governor General did.

The GG did it because the writ had been dropped and the GG has the legal responsibility to keep government operating during the election period.

Had the warrants not been issued, the GoC would have shut down. No pay for the public service, RCMP or CAF. no government expenditures.

The Liberals spent the last 10 years endeavoring to be the least transparent government, time will tell of Carney carries on that tradition.

Could the GG technically spend the next 1-4 years dropping special warrants and our Parliment not go back to sitting for any realy length of time or purpose?

No. Special warrants are just that - special. Barring any extraordinary circumstances, the would not be used.

Apart from that, he seems like a vanilla 'Steady Eddie' long time Liberal MP who probably needed rewarding in some way.

There was no question where Trudeau stayed. The PMO tried to hide the fact it was him who stayed in the suite after the fact. Then they admitted it. Nothing to do with security; everytbing to do with damage control.

Nobody gave a shit about vets before, why would they now? VA is an autopilot portfolio. The government got briefly excited when vets were making the news for turfing themselves but after some brief public attention and a bit of parliamentary committee work, the portfolio faded from the public consciousness.

McGuinty is very well informed from his years at NSICOP. He should have a good grasp of both the publicly obvious, and the less obvious (but known to the intelligence apparatus) threats. But I would actually infer more about PMMC’s intent for CAF from the creation of the supporting Secretary of State for Defence Procurement position.
