Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

It is a good thing if he wants to give his cabinet members and MPs more rein, but they have to realize that when they come out of the huddle, debate is over and the play has been set.
When you put it that way, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe there's no final, final, final position decided on pipelines yet? Still looks bad on PMMC politically having SG beaking out of turn and out of lane, but that maaaaaay explain why no obvious sanctions that we can see?
it might well be that the members of the former cabinet haven't really understood that there is a new boss and new direction.
Maybe, but I suspect if anyone would understand the miracle of second chances in politics, it's the "back at 'er" gang. Then again, you can find entitled ingrates in any group, so ....
... It's tough to be the new sheriff. Come down too hard too soon and the team pushes back, particularly the old guard. Best to give them some rope and see what they do with it.
Zackly!
Only once more, I think.
One hopes ...

Trudeau wasn't exactly setting the bar high in that regard. Two Corporals in a Trench Coat would be more trustworthy.

No insights, crystal ball or even informed views, but it wouldn't surprise me if we saw some movement to expand NG pipeline. Outside of the 'everything must stay in the ground' crowd, I think there is less political capital to expend on transporting NG than crude. Quebec seems willing to at least kick the tires on the idea and it would throw a bone at Alberta; although perhaps maybe not a big enough one or the one they want.

Following 'most consequential election,' Carney takes extended summer vacation

Back for a quick hey hi how are you then empty seats until mid September.
Meh. Using the House of Commons sitting calendar as a ‘gotcha’ shows that either the author is disingenuous or the author is unaware of the difference between the work done in Parliament and the work outside of it. The PM, cabinet, and departments are going to be busy as hell. It’s going to take some time and a ton of work to draft legislation for tabling in the fall after whatever we get in this initial brief period. Over the summer, MPs will be very busy in their ridings.

It sounds like things are shaping up for Byrne's head to be the one that rolls, if Pierre is going to be staying on.

I'd bet 50-50 on that. Depends on whether she thinks PP really wants her out or whether he's just caving to people she doesn't like/agree with.

Sucks for her, considering how much of her soul I suspect she put into the work, but if ANYONE's gotta know the easy-come-easy-go of politics, it's someone like her.

Interesting to watch.

I thought about that.

Parliament essentially not sitting for 9 months. No budget, no bills (and all the previous ones canceled, no oversight.

What kind of work do you figure local MPs will be busy as hell doing?

Refusal to produce a budget is a cop-out. All budgets are subject to change/events; vague concerns about this moment in time are unacceptable. Most of the lifting is done by non-politicians. Even a "this is where things are" budget would be better than showing just how seat-of-the-pants this country's federal government is. I can only wonder how many Canadians willing to let this slide find time to enjoy a snarky moment over Trump's tardy budget request.

I think the problem is all we heard from Carney was platitudes towards the seriousness of the situation we are in and how Canada's relationship with our neighbor and largest trading partner are irrevocably changed but so is our relationship with the world and our engagement in it. And internally we have serious secession movements afoot.

Then to put all the rhetoric aside and take a breather until the fall makes the former all seem disingenuous.

I have said before Carneys biggest enemy is other peoples expectations. And he set that bar himself.

Rocky start there skipper.

If you think 9 months is a long time, don't look at the RCN's submarines...

Where the F8ck is Michael Chong?
I guess competency and integrity is something the PP is not looking for.
Yet another reason why I will not support the CPC under the leadership of PP.
