Could go either way. I would not be surprised if we commit to what we already ordered and not expand beyond that.

Magic eight ball for me says:
1) We get the 88
2) We get somewhere in the mid 60s and we got another mid 60s to mid 70s Gripens.
2A) We station 22-24 of those Gripens in Latvia as a way of further committing to NATO and the EU.

I see no scenario where we have less than 88 fighters going forward.

If I understand the JSF program, commitments get you spots on the production line. Delay your commitments and your deliveries will be delayed.

So a second buy below the total would reserve those production spots, but not necessarily future ones.

It's probably not the best idea for them to draw parallels with the King government circa 1940, given how poorly they performed and how much they tried to limit Canada's involvement in the war.
