Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Could go either way. I would not be surprised if we commit to what we already ordered and not expand beyond that.
Magic eight ball for me says:
1) We get the 88
2) We get somewhere in the mid 60s and we got another mid 60s to mid 70s Gripens.
2A) We station 22-24 of those Gripens in Latvia as a way of further committing to NATO and the EU.

I see no scenario where we have less than 88 fighters going forward.

Number 2 is my guess but that may also be a biased guess on my part…

Do we have to commit to the full buy tomorrow? Or can we order another 3 yrs, maybe get us to that original 65?
If I understand the JSF program, commitments get you spots on the production line. Delay your commitments and your deliveries will be delayed.

So a second buy below the total would reserve those production spots, but not necessarily future ones.

There's always a reason to be scared that justifies the Liberal government spending lots of money.

Canada should be ready for 'generational investment,' Champagne says ahead of budget
"This is like 1945," Champagne said in an interview on Rosemary Barton Live that aired Sunday morning. "This is the moment where Canada needs to reinvent itself.... For me, it's more like a down payment in the future prosperity of Canada."

Champagne has spent the last few days laying the groundwork for what is expected to be a costly budget that he argues is necessary for Canada to steer itself away from its reliance on the United States, which still has tariffs on Canadian goods.

Anyone who doesn't support this down payment to their children's future obviously doesn't care about them.

Interesting take in the latest out of Angus Reid: worries about the economy writ large, but most (~2/3) overall say household finances OK ...

...but mileage, of course, varies considerably based on how much the household makes, though.

Interesting that those in the 100-150 range feel that they are in a better situation than those in the 150-200 range.

People talk as if it is a bad thing if the world isn't dependent on the US.

At least half the US population is fed up with having to support a dependent world.

Just like those folks that are tired of supporting dependent parents and children as well as the rest of the indigent and unemployed.

That same half though still want the world to bend to their will though.

Or parents and children that decide to go their own way and still have the overbearing relative trying to impose their rules and then get upset when they aren’t invited for the holidays despite saying they aren’t coming to begin with

As long as you still need big daddy to protect you, you're going to have to give a little in return.

The world being dependant on the US made the world overall a much safer place.

As the US retreats, other powers will seek to fill the power vacuum left behind, which will result in more land/resource grab wars like the one in Ukraine.

It's less about wanting the US in charge, and more about wanting the peace and stability that a completely dominant and mostly benign superpower brings.

Canada should probably prepare for any potential land grabs, without US help......

They are asking for more than a little. In fact no one is sure what they are asking for.

They are getting upset that the world order is reshaping away from them despite being the ones that want it reshaped.
