Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

I think he's visibly propping the door open for others and I think he has reason to believe those others exist. If we saw floor-crossing the LPC into a majority- wow. That's not on my bingo card. It will also absolutely fucking enrage some folks.
Imaging 3 1/2 more years of not constantly speculating about an election?

Would put the poor polling industry out of business though ...

He'll probably lose on reelection. Floor crossers don't tend to be rewarded by their riding. Just ask Belinda Stronach.

His riding was nearly a dead heat between CPC and LPC, and he's in Nova Scotia. He's in arguably the most survivable position a floor-crosser can be in for a CPC to LPC.

1 is a meh, if we have multiple crossings? that will look really bad for Pierre

Overall a fairly blue tinted budget after a quick gloss. How CPC MP's vote is going to be interesting, might be seeing a few break rank.

I have zero feel for the RUMINT on who else may also be considering it. But it will be a viable option for a few. Crossing guarantees most of three and a half more years in office, and is reasonably defensible from a political standpoint by those who are of a Progressive Conservative bent.

If D'Entremont crosses, and the LPC are just two away, that's worth a deliberate push to entice two more. If this isn't already quietly sorted.

Absolutely zero chance he’d so much as hint at that publicly unless it was basically a done deal, or the last public step of a nearly complete negotiation. It’s political suicide otherwise.

I’ve got a lot of reading to do but first impression is positive.

The potential elimination of the emissions cap will be a very welcome move.

Not sure the NDP can choke this one down even by abstention. But we’ll see.

More to follow once my reading and brain catch up to details.
Smart move putting in the budget a new community centre in the riding of the temp NDP leader.

keep an eye on next week, if the crossing happens it will be announced after remembrance day but before the house sits to vote on the budget

Personally I find the practice despicable and selfish. This close to a majority I'm surprised more MPs haven't jumped ship sooner.
They might have been told to sit on their hands and wait until the budget comes down.

$42 billion or less was never going to happen unless it was a severe austerity budget
Obviously.

Didnt stop PP from making that a condition of his support.

Oh, and to cut taxes.

There was a zero chance PP would support a LPC budget.

More amusingly, if PP was PM, with those conditions, he wouldn't support his own budget

At very first blush, I can live with this budget, even if it included an announcement that they will be reducing the program spend for Veteran's cannabis that plays a significant role in my pain management regimen

If I read correctly, it's a reduction in reimbursement from I think $8.50 to $6 a gram, which they state is in line with market price. Never having bought or used the stuff myself (no judgement- just not for me) is that congruent with reality?
