Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Its started. Its just not 6$ orange juice and the CPC are stealing all the headlines at the moment.
It dates back to 2019 when he was running as a candidate in Sydney, and looks like they didn't follow some of the rule with where it goes and some other things that have more to do with inexperience than malice (like making donations to his campaign that exceeded limits and using his credit card to pay expenses vice some kind of corporate card that would have been set up specifically for the campaign).

These things happen regularly, and why the claims are audited by EC. The rules are not straightforward if you've never done it before, and this thing happens fairly regularly, as you get a lot of people with zero experience trying to do it on their own with limited support (usually other people who've never done it before), especially for nominations where they don't have any kind of party backing in place behind them.

Experienced MPs with campaign staff get picked up for similar issues during actual electrion campaigns, and anyone who thinks this is a big scandal should read the EC guildelines. They do a pretty good job with examples, but still not simple or straightforward with lots of room for misinterpretation. Relies a lot on good procedures, good recordkeeping, and following a lot of rules, so all stuff that people are generally not good at, and why there are accountants that make money doing basic tax returns.

Soundbites for Canada Proud don't unspend billions. Supporting and working with the government could have.
This is where it gets tricky though...

Supporting the budget & working with the government to "unspend billions" isn't a thing.

The government has released it's budget. It is looking for support to pass the budget as it is.

They aren't looking for input from the other parties, and the details of the budget aren't up for discussion. They are looking for support to pass their budget in it's current form.

If the CPC supported the budget as it is, it gives them VERY little wiggle room to oppose anything related to fiscal policy over the next year.

Any time they would want to oppose excessive government spending over the next fiscal year, the LPC could just easily say "Well Mr. Speaker, they supported the budget when we asked for it to be voted on, and now they're opposing it..."

Where they could easily imply or paint the picture that the CPC is wishy washy or indecisive.

It's an easy trap that PP thankfully didn't fall for.

...

PP made it very clear - the CPC would support the budget if it meant lowering the cost of living for average Canadians.

The budget clearly doesn't do that (it actually does the opposite) so the CPC is opposed to it.

They also have some very real concerns about the sheer level of government spending & the massive debt that this lone budget puts on the backs of Canadians.

(Something all Canadians should at least look into & be mindful of - there's no such thing as free money!)

Yes it is- in a manner of speaking. Depends on the budget your supporting relative to the alternatives

Now they are. The opportunity was before.

They were. A minority budget isnt developed in a vacuum. Its a delicate dance of a multiparty negotiation with the party in power trying to deviate as little as possible in order to gain the support needed to pass. The work, the collaboration, came when this budget was being drafted.

Blanchet tried to hold the government for ransom in a fiscally irresponsible shakedown.

PP made it very clear that CPC wouldnt support the budget. Sorry, but a 42 billion dollar deficit while meeting military spending necessity and not leaving the economy out to dry AND reducing government revenues with across the board tax cuts is exactly the kind of untenable proposal that only the guy NOT in charge and not looking to collaborate can make, because he knows its not doable. Looks good on the surface, but in reality a thinly veiled "f off"

So Blanchet and Poilievre signalled their lack of intention to meaningfully engage. The result is a budget that has what influence Davies and the NDP managed to exert.

Does that mean you didn't believe in the last Liberal budget with $42B deficit "guard rails". You rascal ;)

Yes thank god we are getting more jobs created. We should see a decrease usage of food banks any year now.
Supposition: companies and businesses have less TFW's to push around and take advantage of. They have to hire Canadians they can't as easily abuse.

Also, Haggis and his CBSA enforcers are cracking down on those 50,000 unaccounted for people in Canada working illegal jobs. Now companies and businesses need legit job positions.

Did the FES account for DJT undoing decades of trade liberalization, the need to hit NATO spending targets, etc? Did it have the tax cuts PP was demanding?

Sitiations change. There's more that could and should have been cut. The deficit should be lower. But PP's proposal was theatre.

Maaaaaaaybe.

The number could also be 0, or 19'000.
Tell you what.

I will simply trust that you are being fair and honest and gave credit where credit is due back in september, when the Canadian economy created 106,000 full time positions and shed 46,000 part time positions, and said something along the lines of, "great that the Canadian economy created 106,000 full time positions."

I also trust that you know the job market works in cycles and the full time versus part time job figures will fluctuate up and down every given month, but that the Canadian economy has created 120k+ jobs in two months which, on a whole, is a good thing considering everything not under the banner of CUSMA is being hit with tariffs from you know who.
