Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Shocking I know.

I think some people get really excited when they see weakness in the PPs leadership. I understand, I was the same way at the end of JTs tenure.

He is going to have a leadership review soon.
Which goes towards the belief that we wont get an election if their own house isnt in order

Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont says pushing and yelling from Conservative Party leadership "sealed the deal" on his choice to cross the floor of the House of Commons to the Liberals this week.

After d’Entremont’s musings over a possible defection were reported by Politico on Tuesday, the MP says Conservative House leader Andrew Scheer and party whip Chris Warkentin “barged” into his office, pushed his assistant aside and yelled at him about “how much of a snake” he was.

“It really pushed me to a point where it’s like, 'OK, I guess my decision is made for sure now,'” he said in an interview on CBC's Rosemary Barton Live that aired Sunday morning.
Yikes.

And the response from Poilievre's office is "liar, liar, pants on fire"
"Chris d’Entremont, who established himself a liar after wilfully deceiving his voters, friends and colleagues because he was upset he didn’t get his coveted deputy speaker role, is now spinning more lies after crossing the floor. He will fit in perfectly in the Liberal caucus," a spokesperson for the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition said in a statement to CBC News.

Typically a claim like this wouldn't be made without evidence. If there is audio or video of this, that would likely spell bad news for the CPC as if proven the optics are terrible.

Presumably there is at least two witnesses with his assistant, plus whoever else was in the area. Lot more credible of a claim then the CPC mean girls rebuttal that didn't actually address any of this. Also consistent with their tactics and complaints of harrassment leading up to and during the election.

These guys are clowns but trying to posiiton themselves as the responsible adults in the room while behaving like inept schoolyard bullies.

I guess that's better for trade competitiveness. I figured the dollar being 80-90 on the USD would mean export demand might decrease slightly but domestic consumers get cheaper imports. We end up marginally less competitive ininternationally but with better domestic buying power.
Thanks for getting me to look deeper. This article would suggest you have it right.

In a high tariff environment where the Canadian economy needs to export even more to make up for the shortfall in exports to the USA, a 70 cent dollar works much better than a 80 cent dollar.

Put another way, tariffs make it more expensive for Americans to import Canadian goods, but a 70 cent Canadian dollar makes it cheaper.

80 cent dollar just makes whatever tariffs bite more, because instead of something that costs 70 dollars, plus tariffs, will cost 80 dollars, plus tariffs.

I'm not saying that article is wrong, but I will say 2021 did not have the Americans tariffing everything and us needing to shift our trade around internationally in 2025 on their radar.

Roger that. Somewhere in the addled recesses of my brain I remembered that 70-75% has always been the sweet spot, so I looked and found that article...which shows that the sweet spot is dependent on the global economy and a host of other factors.

Not sure where to place this, but congratulations to all those in Canada who made this happen. So proud of you all!

Here's a challenge, try for Polio next, I hear that its not so bad.

Canada loses measles elimination status after three decades, health agency says

Canada has lost its measles elimination status after nearly three decades due to its failure to curb a year-long outbreak, the country’s public health agency said on Monday.

Health experts last month predicted the Pan American Health Organization would strip Canada of the status. The country has recorded more than 5,000 measles cases in nine of its 10 provinces and one northern territory.

Health experts say slipping vaccination rates in parts of the country are a harbinger of more vaccine-preventable illnesses resurgent in a population.

That's a pretty charitable way to interpret a 2% "swing" in opinion... That's within the margin of error for most polls.

It's likely more accurate to say the budget didn't change much of anything for the average voter.

Canada has lost its status of eliminating measles, Health Canada put out the below statement, frankly I don't think its enough anymore that Health Canada can be passive in the current information space of Anti-vax and conspiracy theories dominating social media. A more aggressive public awareness and education campaign is needed, coupled with actively debunking a lot of the misinformation being spread about this and other illnesses.

Direct outcome from playing loose with facts during COVID. Trust has been broken and I'm not sure how that can be fixed quickly, but labels of anti-vax and conspiracy theories isn't it.

Saying we were loose with facts shows exactly what I mean the we lost the information war. People interviewed in the Mennonite community here calling the measles just a flu, also shows how we lost the message, you can also reference the all things Covid 19 thread for more proof of such. This requires an aggressive facts based public education campaign to deliberate debunk all false messaging
