Its sounding like upgraded rail, an all season road, power transmission, pipeline and port infrastructure with icebreaking and critical mineral storage. Thats the word ive been seeing in local media. That said nothing is set or concrete. Just ideas at this point. If that happens in conjunction with the Centreport Free Trade Zone in Rosser/Winnipeg, Manitoba could really reclaim its past glory as a continental shipping hub.

Lots of talk on here previously about the port and channel being a bit shallow and prone to the need for dredging.

Short answer: No. For Arctic operations, there is very little distance advantage in being based in Churchill as compared to being based in St. John's. Add the ice navigation problem in winter, whereas St. John's is ice free, and this limited advantage disappears completely (and can even be reversed). So if you want a "forward" support base, you may just as well go for St. John's.
