$1.4 Billion to CBC (There is a colossal waste of tax money)
$325 Million to CTV, Global, Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Cult MTL, etc.
I am sure there is no reason to believe that an anti-Poilievre bias exist.
They will launch more smear pieces against anyone else that succeeds Poilievre and starts to succeed (IF he doesn't survive the leadership review, big IF)
CBC, receiving more than a billion dollars a year from taxpayers, still doesn't allow for public feedback or public debate on any of their YouTube news episodes or programs...
They also went out of their way to hide from Parliament the revenue they actually do generate either thru their subscription services and advertising.
The head of CBC also gave herself and her senior colleagues a healthy annual bonus while at the same time laying off some pretty junior folks - and those healthy bonuses were ontop of very healthy salaries.
...
I personally have a problem with us funding the CBC to such an extent.
In my opinion, the levels of funding far surpass whatever benefit Canadian society still somehow gets from CBC
The CBC is
NOT transparent about it's income or revenue being generated, they seem unapologetic to taxpayers for giving themselves bonuses while laying off those pesky peasants working at the bottom of the ladder, and their coverage of national level news is also unapologetically bias.
We should NOT be funding an organization that is so deliberately bias in favour of the governing party, and that misleads Canadians.
...
We should also NOT be sending a single dollar to CTV, Global, Toronto Star, Sun Media, etc
Are they public broadcasters? No.
They are large publically traded media corporations - they shouldn't be receiving hundreds of millions of public dollars annually.
It isn't a leap at all to assume their reporting of the news is influenced by the money they receive from government.
If they can't stand on their own 2 feet, then let them fall.
Having every single MSM outlet in the country quietly funded by the government is dangerous, and is intended to influence people's opinions to be what the government wants them to be.
(Does that money even include the subsidies they can & do apply for from other government sources, i.e Heritage Fund, etc?)
...
If people can't see how dangerous of a path Canada is on in regards to state-funded propaganda, they're blind to their own peril.
At $1.4B for CBC + $325M for the big media corporations =
$1.725B just in media funding/subsidies...and that's just in this year's budget...
It's probably safe to assume similar amounts of money being spent next year, and the year after...not to mention the amount of money that has been spent since Trudeau introduced media subsidies a few years back.
...
Yes, Carney inherited an absolute mess from Trudeau. And yes, Carney isn't Trudeau.
But it was a mess he partially created by being Trudeau's economic advisor during the years the mess was created, so he isn't off the hook by any means.
And by continuing a lot of the same policies (which shouldn't surprise anyone since they were essentially his policies to begin with) he isn't taking us in a new direction at all.
We will be as economically competitive as when JT was in power, because it's the
same damn policies.
Maybe at the end of his term, his economic genius will start to shine thru, and all of the accolades will turn out to be well deserved.
Maybe...
But we are rapidly approaching the 1 year mark of Mr. Carney being in power, and so far he has yet to really accomplish jack shit except put us into substantially more debt for things we
may benefit from in the future...maybe...somehow...
My 2 cents anyway, rant over
