Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Yes. It's also possible he was never a "Zealot" and just appreciates we need to be better stewards of the environment but who's number one priority is the prosperity of Canada.
So many people forget that Mulroney was the best 'green' PM this country ever had. He did more for the environment in Canada than any other PM has done and he did it as a pro-business, PC PM. I view Carney as nothing more than an old school 1988 Progressive Conservative.

Is it possible that Carney masqueraded as a climate zealot all these years only to wedge his way into leadership of the modern Liberal Party where he would then shake off the zealotry and steer the party back from the radical left?
I doubt it.

Carney has been a very smart & shrewd businessman, who has worked his way into high profile positions that set him up well in the future.

He's invested wisely in the stock market, has obtained a controlling interest in several large multinational corporations, and rubbed elbows with the elites of the world as being Governor of the Bank of Canada and Bank of England.

I don't know if he was ever truly a climate zealot, or just a shrewd investor who happened to have enough influence at the UN to steer investment dollars towards his company & the stocks he owns.

Make no mistake about it...Brookfield will benefit greatly as a solution to some of the problems the LPC has created.

...

He's not the hero in hiding we need to steer the LPC away from the radical left - that party doesn't take their orders from the Canadian people.

If he was, he wouldn't have ran a bigger deficit than Trudeau/Freeland ever did - one that quite possibly pushed us over a fiscal cliff.

Nor would he be working to impose yet another carbon tax, one that will absolutely be passed onto consumers.

(For a world leading economist, the fact that he seems to think an industrial carbon tax won't be passed down to consumers is kind of astounding...especially seeing that very thing is happening in the grocery world.)

He even stated in Parliament fairly recently that carbon taxes have 0 impact on the price of groceries...an extremely Trudeau-ish answer.

...

Personally, I think the world is in line for a massive shakeup in how the world functions.

It's economic systems, commerce systems, internet access, and general personal freedoms, are about to be turned on their heads.

This isn't alarmist. It isn't a conspiracy theory. The signs and hints are pretty much everywhere, it isn't something they are trying to hide or even gently roll out.

I think Carney is focused on adjusting our own systems & associated functions to line up with the new framework.

He wssn't pretending to be a climate zealot, but he is very much a climate investor - and during a time where that will likely pay off big for those invested in that space in the coming years.

....

Is he better than Trudeau? I have to admit, yes he is. By a LONG shot!

And having met him twice now, I have to also admit I like the guy personally. (At the G-7 Summit in Kananaskis, I was impressed by how courteous he was to hotel staff & everybody really. I think he's a genuinely nice guy)

But if I look at what's coming down the pipe in terms of future issues (not just for Canada but for the western world) more & more I think his goal is to get us thru the upcoming transition in one piece.

Anything he does that steers the LPC back to being more centrist and less batshit crazy far left, the better it will be for both the LPC & the country as a whole.

My 2 cents anyway 🍻

I was wondering what's wrong with impregnating a stepsister.

But forcing yourself on a 13 year old stepsister is indeed, very wrong.

Talk about burying the lead.
Eeeeehhhhhhh...while 'technically' nothing is wrong with impregnating your step-sister...I'm pretty sure it's still looked down upon by society...

(And yeah, her being 13yo certainly doesn't help the optics)

Brihard is right. Best to break this down and look at the details.

I didnt know where to put this so I will deposit it here.

Not an indication of this Gov. More as a further example of our failed systems.

I very much link the two, Halifax...

If our institutions & systems are failing, it's because the government hasn't been supporting them or directing them correctly.

I don't blame Carney for this. He inherited a broken ship.

But government tends to set deportation policy via Immigration Canada. And while adjudicators can and do influence individual cases, it's government that ultimately steers that ship.

He's invested wisely in the stock market, has obtained a controlling interest in several large multinational corporations,
I'm pretty sure that this is either deliberate misinformation or innocent misunderstanding on your part. If you're referring to Brookfield Asset Management, they're a publicly traded corporation with a market cap of over 85 Billion US. Mark Carney does not have a controlling interest in the corporation.

Bingo - essentially a Maslow's Hierarchy modified for business/governance.

I learned way back in the 80’s that when the economy is good and people are feeling stable, environmental issues rate pretty high with the public. But when the economy is in the gutter, the environment takes a backseat to other more pressing concerns.

I can’t believe that a lot of smart progressive politicians and their circle has not figured out what has been common knowledge for at least 40 years.

How this relates to the PM? I’m sure when times were good, he was very concerned about the environment. But now that we’re in hard an uncertain times, and now he has an entire country to run, I think he’s smart enough to focus on other priorities.

If they were smart they would use the environment to prop up the economy. It isn’t mutually exclusive.

For example supporting Canadian manufacturing is environmentally friendly as the alternative is producing said products in foreign countries with less environmental controls and then shipping it here on fuel guzzling ships.

Our current form of environmentalism really isn’t. Shutting down factories in Canada but still buying the products from other countries means your polluting more globally, but we don’t care as OUR pollution numbers are lower.

that’s different from a properly-worked process returning a shitty outcome.
There was a case law I was reading about OPP 'pulling over' a drunk guy on a 4-wheeler after he pulled into his drive way. I recall it saying that the police did violate his rights somehow, but the judge was letting the charges stand anways.

I understand appeals are a part of the process (when judges choose to hear them?) and sometimes the system works and procedures shitty results. There should be a clause or option where deportable people are just short tracked after committing heinous crimes. Especially against children.

This guy should have been deported a long time ago. I'm not sure if it's the same guy from the other story about a 13 year old being raped, I didn't read that one.

This 44 year old man impregnated a 13 year old - twice.
This is child #13 by the man across multiple female partners (or victims no doubt).

He was released three times, violated the conditions twice, charged and convicted for those breaches, then finally detained in custody upon his third breach.
He has been in jail since – almost 1,000 days.
One of the pregnancies occurred while the man was on release, court heard.

Good news is it looks like he should be sentenced to 6 to 8 years (serve 2 or 3 considering enhanced credit and early conditional release?), and should be deported afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a couple more appeals coming.
