Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Your scenario ties the status of an MP to a tie to a particular party. As previously mentioned, political parties are not mentioned in the Constitution.

What if the opposite were occur: for whatever reason, the party kicks the member out of caucus. Would they cease to be an MP, since they no longer represent the party they ran under? That would be tantamount to the party overriding the democratic wishes of the electorate of the riding.
Exactly. It puts power in the parties hands not the MPs. That allows power to be consolidated in very specific areas not repersenting the people of a region.

If anything the rules should go you have to live in a area for two years before you can run for that regions MP. No more parachute candidates, more regional representation in spite of what has already been done.

Party affiliation should always be at risk. Otherwise hardliners will take control and basically force others to follow or lose their jobs.

You’re jumping my gun, dammit. But let me get the sought clarifications first; he may already have a workaround on this.

Jim Belanger has denied rumours of floor crossing in a Facebook post. Looks like someone was just chasing engagement.

Really?
I've been told here that either the American or Brit version of various spellings are OK, including in mil circles ....
... but what do these guys think is the "Canadian English" version? 🤷‍♂️

Pedantic English majors with nothing better to complain about care about this.

Now the Newfoundlanders will rise up!

So you have always used the spelling 'recognise', 'synchonise' or 'aluminium' (with the second 'i')?
Seems to me that Canadian english is nothing more than a hodge-podge of both British and American. We don't have any spellings that are unique to Canada but rather our spellings are totally dependent upon the age of our public school teachers. The older ones tended to British spellings whilst the post-war group started using Americanisms. In the long run, does it matter? It seems like a foolish discussion. And here I am joining in. lol

You probably right, but it seems we are no different than Australia and probably a lot of other Commonwealth countries. Everybody is going to be impacted by the 'US influence' by virtue of the reach of this media. Maybe it's the hodge-podge, the almalgam, that makes it our own. I don't lose a lot of sleep over it but when it used to be important to my work I used the Canadian Press Style Guide as a reference. I used to have a copy but it seems to have gone astray in our move.

is there not a Canadian English dictionary?
As a matter of fact:

I've never really trusted the online Microsoft spellcheck dictionaries.

Our immigration system needs a big overhaul.

Toronto hate crime suspect denied refugee status in 2018

Before arriving in Canada and planning what police called a “serious, violent attack in Toronto” in 2024, Ahmed Fouad Eldidi had allegedly appeared in a 2015 ISIS execution video in which he could be seen hacking up an Iraqi victim with a sword.

Despite his suspected role in ISIS, Eldidi was able to immigrate to Canada and obtain citizenship
weeks before he and his son were caught in a hotel room as they were allegedly preparing to conduct an attack.
