It would be discrimination if they didn't set up police stations here. This is a sign we're in the big leagues.
You beat me to it!Countermove to watch for: the U.S. is already banning sale or import of Chinese ‘connected’ (digitally) cars from 2027 model year on. Watch for them to say Canadians will not be allowed to drive Chinese manufactured vehicles across the border.
See my reply to Brihard, above.Imagine crossing into the US with one of those EVs lol
It's good that cross border trips to the USA from Canada continue to plummet then. You beat me to it!
Could be that Canadian registered Chinese manufactured vehicles would have to have some features disabled IOT be allowed to cross into the US temporarily. Permanent importation, such as when a Canadian is in the US on a work permit or as a settler, might be forbidden.
Tariffs.
Talks of annexation.
False claims of fentanyl flowing from Canada into the USA
Multiple visits to work out a deal to drop the tariffs leading to nothing.
Talks of how the USA doesn't want any vehicles made in Canada.
The USA has made it clear that it doesn't want to work with anyone, Canada included. So is China the first choice? No. But if it's willing to work with Canada on TRADE then we that's what we need to do.
America seems to believe that we will simply stand pat, allow them to try to hurt our economy and we will do nothing in response. This is a shot across the bow saying, hey, we have options if you're not willing to work with us.
No, overall that’s a bad thing. It’s only good in the context of demonstrating some resolve and solidarity in the face of bullying. But the consequential adaptations are not inherently ‘good’. We WANT to return to closer and friendlier ties with the U.S.- when their policy choices return to being more amenable to that. It's good that cross border trips to the USA from Canada continue to plummet then.

My father in law had one. Apparently they were popular out here in the hinterland.
You’re speaking for yourself, which is fine. You aren’t speaking for the rest of us.We do not.
This administration has taken the mask off. This is what America is, and is likely to be every 4 years.
As long as you realize the same is true of you. You’re speaking for yourself, which is fine. You aren’t speaking for the rest of us.
No its not. It's good that cross border trips to the USA from Canada continue to plummet then.
Oh don’t worry, I do.As long as you realize the same is true of you.

Trump has everyone so upset many are ready to cut off their own nose to spite him while letting Canadian companies that depend on the US crash and burn. You’re speaking for yourself, which is fine. You aren’t speaking for the rest of us.
How is not travelling to the USA cutting off our nose to spite him?Trump has everyone so upset many are ready to cut off their own nose to spite him while letting Canadian companies that depend on the US crash and burn.
i wont be buying one either but "our" manufacturers have become extremely complacent and reliant on a closed marketI’ll be interested to see what their price points are. We’ll have to be attentive to any sort of dumping aimed to disrupt our domestic manufacture in the long run.
I will never, ever own one of their vehicles. Lots of Canadians will be happy to see some increased competition though
Not sure how many Chinese car companies would be looking to sell here. BYD certainly, not sure if there would be others. Expect to see dealerships pop up in Vancouver and the GTA, maybe elsewhere.
