I’ll be interested to see what their price points are. We’ll have to be attentive to any sort of dumping aimed to disrupt our domestic manufacture in the long run.
I will never, ever own one of their vehicles. Lots of Canadians will be happy to see some increased competition though
Not sure how many Chinese car companies would be looking to sell here. BYD certainly, not sure if there would be others. Expect to see dealerships pop up in Vancouver and the GTA, maybe elsewhere.
Countermove to watch for: the U.S. is already banning sale or import of Chinese ‘connected’ (digitally) cars from 2027 model year on. Watch for them to say Canadians will not be allowed to drive Chinese manufactured vehicles across the border.
Ban also covers Russian vehicles, and the sale of any software or hardware, even if produced in the US.
