Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Carney walked back Davos comments in call with Trump, US treasury chief says

I wonder if Carney apologized, or the Treasury chief is lying.

Bessent isn't someone anyone should take what they at face value.

My bet is that the conversation was mostly one-sided and that an apology was demanded. Whether it was delivered, I don't know. But given the US administration has played fast and loose with the truth in the past, I'll give it a doubt.
One persons "aggressively walked back" is another's "placated with hollow diplo-speak"

Indeed. Until and unless I see a transcript confirming it, I put zero weight to Bessent’s characterization.

Carney wants a Trillion dollars to rework Canada. Coincidentally that is the same amount that was chased out of Canada since 2015.

We have also been spending money on hiring low wage foreigners rather spending money on the equipment that would allow our resident population to produce more and make more mone for us all, without taking on the costs of finding more food, housing and health care for the hired help.

and this is on businesses, using and in many cases exploiting things like the TFW program, and other programs for cheap labour rather then investing in canadians or the business. The provinces haven't helped the situation either, but good on the gov to be finally trying to turn this around and focus on generating growth and jobs

This is also on our tax policies and regulations that discorage the types of investments other countries seek to attract, Starmer is pursuing Trudeau's policies and money is running for the exits.

which tax policies are you referring to? we have some of the lowest corporate and capital gains taxes in the G7. History also shows decreasing taxes on businesses has not translated into increased investment

I'm guessing that this supposed "walking back" by Carney was simply the PM re-stating what he said publicly about his visit to China. Canada is strategically making some targeted trade agreements with China but we have no intention of entering a full free-trade agreement with them (which comments from Trump earlier seemed to suggest)

Vertical farming enters the chat:

B.C. entrepreneurs see sky as limit for vertical farming

Indoor farming expected to grow as dominant source for leafy greens in next decade

Up Vertical Farms launched production in March at its fully automated, custom-built, vertical-farming facility in Pitt Meadows.

Brothers Shahram and Bahram Rashti founded and financed the multimillion-dollar operation that is in a 50,000-square-foot building on 10 acres of ALR land, and they designed the company’s equipment, CEO Bahram Rashti told BIV.

I don't follow the Agribusiness but it seems vertical farming is most suitable for leafy greens; plants that grow fast, are generally eten as-is and the edible/marketable bits are above ground. I certainly don't see it suitable for plants such as root vegetables, grains which, if nothing else, have a long growing season or most tree fruits. As mentioned, energy costs would be an issue.

Yesterday's Hanwha news wasn't just about Canadian steel. They are definitely putting money where their mouth is.
