Apparently, when the French-Canadian soldiers landed in France during/after the Normandy landings they had no problems speaking with the locals. Same dialect and everything.

I can’t seeing anything changing until the government starts seriously messing up or failing to make progress on what the voters expected this PM to do. That might be a while.

If we have an election before this happens, it almost seems unfair to me for the Tories to dump PP when they lose. It’s almost like he won’t have a chance of turning things around before the government starts to lose its lustre.

There's also a case that he had a chance to clearly and consistently change course right after Carney took over, too.

Oh for sure. He will have to wear that failure to adapt for a long time. I would think it would be disqualifying.

But the party in its infinite wisdom decided to give him another kick at the can, and the Tories’ habit of “one and done” leadership is annoying. But I don’t think PP will be able to win in the short term no matter how well he adapts now. He pretty much has to wait for the government to fail in the eyes of the persuadable voters before he can possibly win. Does he have time though?

I don't think he has a chance to win in the long term; his political history is too petty, shortsighted and shallow and he's too aligned with fairly polarizing positions to ever wash off the stink.

Maybe a minority government, if the LPC just implodes but would be as a result of the other guy failing, vice his standalone merit. A lot of his seats were votes against the Trudeau Liberals vice votes for the CPC, and he missed that small window.

The 2015 election was a CPC loss, not a LPC win. Canadian voters seem to frequently vote against the incumbent government, rather than for the opposition.

seems to be the desire for change after the same leader for a long time, liberals had it coming too until Carney took over, a fresh face with a new direction was enough it seems to refresh many voters.

I agree. My point was I can’t see him winning unless the government becomes so toxic that he looks good in comparison. I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
