Yes however the needs of rural citizens are very different from urban citizens. Just giving urban citizens a 100% carte blanche in decisions will lead to much more serious issues.
You can’t have the majority making every decision especially when it runs counter to the minority. We had a whole constitution created to address those types of issues (for example Quebec nationalism).

That was supposed to be covered by representation in the Senate, but the Fathers of Confederation also didn't account for westward expansion to create new urban populations to rival Montreal, Toronto, and the entirety of the Maritimes.
Vancouver was less than 1000 pers when they entered Confederation in 1870, so suffice to say the seat allocation needs a revamp.
As mentioned in other threads, trying to get a sitting government to crack open the Constitution to make those amendments is like asking a snake to start chowing down on it's tail.

Not a Constitutional SME.
But, from what I understand, separating 243 square miles of real estate from a province of 415,518 square miles would require an amendment to the Constitution of Canada. The constitutional amendment would require resolutions from the House of Commons of Canada and the Senate of Canada and resolutions from the legislative bodies of 7 of the provinces representing at least 50% of the population of Canada.
So, good luck to anyone hoping to separate Canada from a Monarchy, or separate a province from Canada.

I have yet to see any source from the CPC for their claim. The only thing I can find is from 2024, citing unnamed officials that 700 people with IRGC links are in canada. So we have no current data since the IRGC was designated a terror group.

Not what I was recommending at all.
My point was to highlight that a lot of the assumptions that motivated the division of representation in the Senate, are wholly not respresentitive by population (kind of a good thing) but can lead to the tyranny of the majority.
I also was stating that any constitutional amendments in representation, electoral reform, Republican aspiration, etc. would need to be driven by a sitting government that had a full mandate to do so.
But as I also highlighted, I would sooner find proper fitting CADPAT MCU before finding a government willing to burn the house down while they were still inside it.

The 700 figure pops up in a 2023 list of government committee recommendations as well as a 2023 CTV investigation quoting a lawyer saying, “We have about 700 names right now that either have temporary residence, permanent residence or citizenship that are in Canada and that are somehow regime affiliates. We are still counting. So it’s going to be closer to 1,000.”
The 2023 committee recommendations call on Ottawa to "Designate the IRGC as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code and expel the estimated 700 Iranian agents operating in Canada." The committee recommendation doesn't explain where the 700 comes from.

Exactly my curiosity, is this some former IRGC member taking a casual retirement or is this someone's cousin?
Also what degree of continuing involvement does that connote? Some of the discourse on this talks as if that’s 700 IRGC sleeper agents… Iran isn’t really much for sleepers though; they work through proxies, temporary residents, or organized crime hired for the job. Some more clarity is required about what these claims mean… though given the original sources are likely classified national security intelligence I doubt we’ll get much more detail at our level.

That would also be discourse from people (activists) who may benefit from more inclusive definitions of bad guy than less, too - further amplified by politicians whose approach gets ammo from more, not fewer, estimated bad guys
I vaguely remember “official” figures being in the dozens of (clearly defined) suspected IRGC types, with hazier figures around supporters/fellow travellers. Any is too many, but the estimated number range is pretty broad.

Google: GDP per capita growth last 10 years to see a comparison against our peer countries.
With the limp efforts towards resource exports and the elbows up mentality towards our largest trading partner, I don't see the current Liberal party improving this situation.

They wont. I can actually feel something has changed. I think we have reached the crescendo of PMMCs popularity. Economic realities are about to #elbowsup Canada IMHO. And people elected him, in part, to make life better.
If you have every hunted bears, sometimes, just before they die they let out a defiant death moan/growl. I feel like this LPC Gov may be that for the LPC for a very long time. It could also just be me hoping.
