Sad part is, the same Canadians are still fooled by a different package this time. The ball is in Carney's court. He has his coveted majority.
If he thinks the "rupture" is something he can exploit for 4 years, then we will get flattened. We are far more dependent upon them then they are on us.
The bourbon industry is feeling a hit. Woop dee fucking doo.
While we are a major producer and exporter of fertilizer, it’s still a market commodity and our farmers will have to compete with other purchasers to buy it. This could definitely become a crisis our government needs to deal with. And obviously any policy that favours selling to Canada’s own farmers preferentially at the expense of American farmers could be a major trade irritant. What I don’t know is if our own farmers have largely secured their spring fertilizer already. If not… Could have real problems that will hit at a national level.
@ArmyRick - you’re one of our resident farmers. Is this specifically something you’ve got any read on at the national level? Are Canadian farmers cruising for a bruising on fertilizer costs?

Carney is riding a post by election high as well as the Part conference. Even Nick Nanos, who does somewhat support Liberals, has warned polls are a snap shot in time and they can turn on a dime.
Two paths forward.
One, Carney finally cleans out the remaining filth of the Trudeau era stuck in the Liberals heels and really does make some big moves and boldly launches forward. Hell, even I'll cheer to that.
Two, Carney continues on the big promises-little results governing and continues to blame it on Trump. The opposition is no longer a hinderance. That won't go over too well in about 6-18 months.
If you think the CPC is sliding and I am guessing you think its to blame on Pierre, then let it happen. We Conservatives will suffer the consequences or reap the rewards, pending on which way the future takes us.

I am not crop farming anymore, I will talk to my neighbours but so far, no panicking. Mind you, it may be a lag effect. Watch and see. Will update as soon as I hear something.

Rog, thanks. From what I gather those who signed contracts months ago are fine, it’s those who hadn’t yet who could be in real trouble.

And it depends on where you are and it also depends on what your cropping.
Last I talked to Kim my neighbour (he crops about 10,000 acres annually), there was bigger concern among some in Ontario about whether to get involved in Canola or reduce it, China trade still being questionable (tariffs on/off)

What he said was subjective. Pierre did say Carney wa badly educated (questionable) BUT he pointed out several errors Carne has made in the last 4-5 years in his predictions. Pierre and Carney are very well known to each other from years ago in parliamentary committee.
Saying he is whining is like saying the Liberals are complaining when they talk smack about the Conservatives. In my view, this is the game and Carney has more than indulged in it.

To add, Russia has significantly increased Canola production, pretty much for China's benefit. Cunning but smart move. This puts China in the power position to dictate terms to us on Canola trade.

To continue with the farming sidetrack
lots of decisions in the wind to make. Our neighbours dont seem to be worried one way or the other with about 50% fertilizer prebooked and the other 100% also dont seem to be shying away from corn. Had an almost total write off last year due to lack of precipitation so obviously hoping for better

I think that's a well written and thought out response.
Much better than implying that peoples biases make someone inherently wrong or right.
You certainly have your own biases but I don't tend to dismiss you out of hand.

Sounds like a great time to shut the straight of Hormuz and plunge the global food supply into a crisis that will kill millions due to starvation.
But to bring this back to Canada...do we benefit more from high fertilizer costs pumping up our economy compared to the cost of food?
