I sure hope that this is a tongue-in-cheek response

I've seen people here already just give up their critical thinking skills to AI, and as bad as that is, at least they are just people on a online forum. It's sad, but whatever.

But politicians just letting AI write their speeches, telling them how to think...at least with staffers you have a collection of like minded humans. Back and forth, pushback, human correction. What do we have now, like minded AI?

It's pathetic.

Using AI willy-nilly without knowing how it works (and doesn't) is bad, but in the bigger scheme of things, I wonder if, maybe, if political parties allowed their members to speak their piece without having to generally be centrally controlled by a party borg, you wouldn't need as much "reading off the script"?

Huge issue, not just in older people, the youth are also being ruined by AI and we aren’t doing anything about it. They literally aren’t learning right now, when our collective IQ peaked and is now on a decline we need to stop and fix it. No one wants to however because that is hard and involves a lot of fighting, time, and money.

I'm more worried about young people, because if they learn to use AI as a crutch now, they always will.

Older people using it is more sad and amusing because you get videos like that.

On a whole, watching humanity just give up being able to think critically not simply to AI, but to tech giants has me concerned that we are not ready for what's coming with the next LLMs being cooked up by current LLMs

If students are going to use AI for assignments, we should try to find a way to make them use it the same way as Google - as a research tool, not a 'do everything tool'

Google is a search engine. It leads you to sources, to data.

LLMs are force feeding people what to think. I recently was rebuilding my PC, and googled about the fan port for a new exhaust fan i was installing.

Google Ai tried feed me an answer, and I decided to see what it told me (i had already found the amswer on reddit.)

It told me to just plug it into the Sys-fan port on the motherboard. I gave it a photo. It said, right there, bottom left of your photo, plug it in. I took another photo, saying i dont see it. It told me, no worries, when you install it you will find it when i move my current heatsink.

After 5 more photos and actually removing my heatsink it replies, oh no, it turns out you dont have a sys-fan port. Use a splitter!

Thanks google ai, gaslighting me when a reddit post had given me the answer 10 minutes earlier.

so what's the problem? The problem is LLM FORCE feeding me the wrong answer for 10 minutes. What if I didn't know already that was the wrong answer? The problem with LLMs is they can and do force feed us stuff that is sloppy, factually incorrect, but if people are using it as a source for something they don't know, how do they know its incorrect?

We need to regulate the AI sector. Heavily. But tech giants are a protected class.

It's only getting better. And the next models are going to be much more powerful and smarter than the current models.

And every human is learning to rely on them for critical thinking. We are screwed as a species.

The agreement in principle locks in the 50/50 net split, it's just that the fund and cost definitions to actually run it are still being set up. So more like "deal's signed, plumbing's not installed yet" than "nothing exists."

and even worse, it teaches things that are flat out wrong although they often come with the "this may not be exact" caveat. But who pays attention to a warning until they actually get burnt. Case in point I was out pulling weeds yesterday and came across one without any fruit or flowers that I couldn't readily identify as they were only a few inches above ground. So I asked THE MACHINE and it came back with young mock orange plants: good deal. But there was a vine growing nearby with a similar leaf so I asked about it as well. Came back with a plant called 'dog strangling vine' which is listed as noxious and invasive and can be toxic. So I went back to sample A and tried again. This time it came back as young vine plants. AI is not intelligent nor does it think for itself. It simply allows the user to access a much larger data base than a home computer or laptop and processes that larger resource to produce the most logical answer given the information. Believing it as being fact can and will lead to wrong conclusions and possible fatal errors. Could be of interest to game the 1983 false alarm regarding missile launches and again the 1995 Norwegian launch to see what an AI response would make of them. Would they agree with Petrov and ignore it instead of passing it up the line, would they wait as the Russians did in 1995? Do want to bet your life on a computer decision?

It's like the F35 agreement. Canada says we commit to it, but we haven't signed the paperwork. And we can still renegotiate or walk away.

Trump is celebrating his touchdown at the 10 yard line and Carney is trying to force a fumble before he crosses for a touchdown.

Trump may yet get his touchdown, but the play is still in motion and this dunking on Carney is premature.
