Loadsa "independents" on the Ballot Discussion (split from PP by-election)

BC almost chose a mixed proportional system until they learned that it was likely their MLAs and candidates could be all from a community 3 hours away and their ridings would be 5 times larger than they are now.
I hear you but I think larger ridings are a good compromise to ensure majorities dont form with ~40% of the popular vote.

Larger ridings leads to less repersentation, culminating in urban areas having even more say than they currently do.

My region went from 2 ridings to 1 riding in the last election. Our representation just got halved. I do not view that as a good thing.

Also having majorities is important. What is worse is what a lot of European states get locked into which is a small kingmaker party or two which got 5% of the vote but is able to disproportionately force their agenda on the government to keep the larger party with 45% of the vote in power. That isn’t very good representation.

Our current system favours moderate parties. Switching it up results in much more strength to extremist parties who will use that strength to force unpopular leglisation across.

I do find it amusing that we have a group complaining about electoral reform (longest ballot folks) leading to complaints here about their efforts and how we need... Electoral reform.
the resounding "well... not like THAT!" is interesting to say the least.

Interesting that we have a resident of Nebraska (Jason Buzzell of Fremont, Nebraska) running as one of the longest ballot committee members and a resident of the UK (Tracy Faber of Lancaster, UK), both represented by Tomas Szuchewycz (The guy representing most of them).

But hey "its no big deal..." Yup, too many here turn a blind eye to what is wrong. Go ahead, shit all over me, wrong is still wrong at the end of the day (and its hilarious your blaming the conservatives for setting up the conditions of a by election)

I dont care about the longest ballot. Read down the list find the one you like, dont be lazy.

To me FPTP is garbage, and we need a change. But I am also an anti monarchist. So there's that too.

Are they legally entitled to run for candidacy in Canada? We have citizens across the world that are able to do the same thing if they so desire.

This is no different than what Pierre Poilievre, Carpetbagger Esq. is doing by parachuting into the riding in a bid for the seat.

Not at all shitting on you personally, Rick.

I would caution though that what is "wrong" and what is "legal" are very important distinctions.

The CPC member (who was duly and fairly elected in the general election) vacated their seat at the request of the CPC Leader (who lost their seat in a riding halfway across the country) because they thought it would be a safe bid to get him back into the House. I cannot see who else is to lame for this unnecessary by-election

This is 100% an own goal for the CPC that has backfired spectacularly. If Poilievre had shown any form of honour in defeat, he would have resigned and let an interim leader take the reins. Because of that, we are where we are and this by-election has gone pear-shaped.
