Looking for a medium sized bag (between a daybag and a rucksack).

I'm looking for a medium sized bag.  Something that's between a daybag and rucksack in terms of capacity, as well as easy to get a radio in and out of without too much hassle.  Jives well with body armour is a must, as is a decent waist belt.  Would be nice if it had or could be rigged with a pocket that'd carry a biv bag, ranger blanket and fleece liner.

Try Mystery Ranch

Here is a link to one bag I found in about 2 mins seems to fit what you are looking for.

It is design to worn with body armour anything they make with the BVS system is designed that way.

After a quick look through the website that BVS system makes a lot of sense.  It's tempting to just get the frame and use it as the basis for a modular ruck.

Mystic River has a pretty good rep.

The other gold standard in packs is Kifaru.  I used the Kifaru Pointman for 7 months in Afghanistan, both mounted and dismounted, and it fits all your criteria (including the armour part).

https://kifaru.net/pointman.html

I put a long pocket in each side.  The top of the ruck contained my sleeping gear while the bottom had clothing, spare water, and some other stuff.  The top and bottom access made it pretty easy to get at stuff without having to pull everything out.  One side pocket had 72 hours rations while the other side had mission essential stuff (radio batts, 7.62 link, spare smoke)  It was heavy, but it was as good as a backpack got.

The downside is the steep pricetag, but you get what you paid for.

I hear good things about Mystery Ranch, and I'm very happy with my Kifaru Marauder (although that pack would be small for your purposes).

Another pack I would look into is Kifaru's Armor Grip 1.

Pretty snazzy!

Having a certified Kifaru addiction, I also have a Marauder.  Best day-pack ever.  I use the two in tandem; Marauder was essentially part of the FFO (24 hrs) while the Pointman was the "marching order" (48-72 hours).  I have the docking system (for a smaller pack) but I never tried to see how cumbersome these two would be.

Looks like the CF was trying to copy some of Kifaru's concepts when they designed the new ruck.

Too bad they failed to understand the details.

That Kifaru stuff looks really high speed, and by high speed I mean simple.  Too bad it doesn't come in CADPAT; it'd make slipping in under the radar so much easier.

Fun Fact:

All you need is a piece of double sided hook velcro to swap out the new ruck's issued belt with a Kifaru belt.

The stabilizing and load bearing straps on the kifaru belts integrate perfectly with the issued ruck.  The only problem is that the kifaru belt has loop velcro where the issued belt has hook velcro.  If you get a few strips of hook velcro tape and fold them back on themselves, you'll have a double-sided hook velcro panel you can put between the loop areas of the ruck and the belt to get them to attach to each other.

I've done this with the unpadded Kifaru belt I got with my Marauder.  It's the cat's ***.

Nothing an issued CADPAT ruck cover can't fix.

IIRC there is a CADPAT AR one.......

I have an AR one, but I don't think it'll fool the fun police when everyone else is wearing green.

CP Gear used to sell a TW cover for the rucksacs...don't know if they still do........
