I have heard you get a special Military ID card when serving is that true? Or just a rumor which goes around?

You get a picture ID card, yes... why would this seem odd? Other then MPs looking at it once in a while, the only thing it's useful for it getting into some bars cheap (Other bars won't even let you in if you're using a military ID)

Also good for discounts at motels (government rate).

Don't knock the utility of military ID, at one point on course in Kingston, I had three soldiers clubbing on my ID.  Myself 6'1" green eyed white guy, Arsinio (5'7" Filipino), and Pte Chen (5'5" Chinese).  Since we were all old enough to serve our country, it was the least the county could do to provide enough ID to allow all three of us to get a brew.  Other than that, my military ID also got me a tour on a Australian Navy Frigate, when I was admiring it from the dock, the sentry challenged me, took a look at my ID and got a crewman to give me a quick tour.  It was a sweet little ship.  Other than that the military ID mostly only useful for signing into buildings to which you are not assigned but must report.  It also gets you into Legions, which comes in handy when you want a drink in a nice quiet place without all the civvy BS (honestly sometimes you want a game of pool without someone going postal when they lose).

There is a whole list of places where you can get discounts with a military ID. Check it out. I save a lot of money because  i show my wherever i go. Take advantage of it.

cool, there an pics of what one looks like? Just curious since i havent ever seen one

If someone were to post a pic of a military ID here it would violate operational security in that undesireables may try to copy it and use it for subversive activities.Do you see many pictures of RCMP Id cards floating around?Same thing.

You're asking a question that I would say violates Operational Security (OPSEC). No one is going to post a pic of what a Mil ID looks like since this is the internet and anyone could be reading this. It's pretty hard to fake a Mil ID if you don't know what it looks like.

*edit - SHELLDRAKE, you beat me to it but I'll leave my post as is.

All places that sell Alcohol and Tobacco products (in Ontario at least) have a poster of 'acceptable forms of ID' posted somewhere, this includes the Military ID, so I do not think that this would be an OPSEC concern, unless there is some sort of information missing from the examples on the aforementioned posters.

This is being locked as it borders on both PERSEC and OPSEC matters....btw Torn I did not realize you were an expert on these matters.
