Missing some training

Hello, I've gone through the recruiting process, everything went through okay, and I'm set to be enrolled sometime early in the new year as a reserve infantryman in the RHLI. From what I've heard from the recruiting officer at the RHLI, the next BMQ course is set to begin sometime in February. From what I've heard, the training is held every other weekend, and maybe one weeknight. Now for my problem.

My pipe band was just invited back down to play in the Virginia International Tattoo, and I'd be gone from April 22 to May 1. Would I be able to miss any training to attend this event? Or does it all depend on the situation? It wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't able to go, I just had a blast there last year and really wouldn't mind going again.

It may depend. Once you've learned how to write a memo, write one to give your section commander specifying the dates you will be gone. What has happened to my recruits in the past is that the leave may be granted as long as your unit will be able to make up the training that you will be missing during that weekend(s). You will have to check with your course staff, as it'll depend on them and ability to get the training made up.

Yes, I am in a similar situation. I am doing the High school BMQ CO-OP. My mother is from Ireland,, and there is a family wedding there in the middle of my course. Would I do the same thing memo to section commander on the issue?

That might be a little more difficult as you'll be missing more days of training. Submit a memo anyways and see what happens, of course specifying the reason is for a wedding in the family. Good luck with that.

31 CBG Battle school has just released some coarse date changes. Hamilton BMQ Coarse 0604 begins Jan 20 weekend with SHARP training. Coarse dates are then Feb 3-5, Feb 17-19, Mar 3-5,( First aid March 17-19), (NBC March 31-April 2), April 7-9, April 21-23, (Winnona Rifle range May 5-7), May 12-14, May 26-28. The last to weekends are field exercises. I hope this helps some how. I am 1/2 way through my BMQ. They handout the coarse dates for all coarses on Friday night.

Thanks fisteddragon, looks like if I got that course and went away, I'd be missing my first range weekend, so I don't think I'll be going.
