Mobile Support Equipment Operator (MSE Op) [Merged]

Hi there! So as a DP1 mse op reservist you get your certification that’s equivalent to an AZ in Ontario (tractor trailers and air brake)?
Thanks!!
You would get your class 3 equivalent with air brakes. Usually you get qual’d on Milcot, MSVS, and things like trailer, material handling crane and TDG, class 1 and trailer would come later and possibly done through your home base. As to what Aper said, when I was on course, we had 2 guys who had class 1 with air brakes and one was a long haul driver for years and they wouldn’t PLAR the course for him, So the course was relatively easy for him. But you still need to learn hides/harbours, blackout driving and DP’s which is probably why it wasn’t PLAR’d

Hope that helps

Thanks very much that helps a lot.. I’m a crane operator as a civilian and im out of work which is why i started this process (besides my desire to serve) and im hopeful that the training will eventually get me a class1 equivalent so if im out of work again with my civilian life i can drive truck ,
Thanks again for your info !

Hello everyone!
I am going to training soon and wanted to ask you about the training itself and about the staff who teach there. Do they treat students the same way as recruits during BMQ?

Maybe you can tell me which is better — studying in a French-speaking group or in an English-speaking group?

How is it with weekends, and do you need special permission if you don’t want to sleep on base?

These questions come up because I would like to have a clear picture beforehand.
I hope that after the initial training everyone around will be reasonable service members, and especially the staff.

I wish everyone a good mood and good service!

Are you Reg force or Reserves? I am assuming you will be going on your QL3? My experience is that you start off getting all your safe driving, tdg, air brakes etc and then start getting vehicle quals. On my army reserve 3’s I did milcot, MSVS, t1 trailer, material handling crane as well my things like c9 etc. there will be lots of classroom time, lots of driving time and a field ex that was about a week or so learning hides/ harbours, DP’s etc. all in all a great course and I had great fellow candidates. Also my training staff was top notch. It’ll be a fun time for you I am sure you will enjoy it! As per the treatment, that’s all up to you and your fellow candidates. I was lucky enough to have a spring course that had majority mature adults so it went relatively smoothly.

Thanks a lot for replying to my message!
Yes, I’m in the Regular Force, and I already have a Class 1 truck licence, so that’s why I’m going into this trade.

I’m mostly curious about what service is like after the training in general — are people usually not toxic?
I’ve heard a lot of different things from different people and read many comments with mixed opinions.

How long have you been in the army, and which base are you posted to?
