Naval Missile Thread

We shouldn't be employing the AOPS in a role or AOR that has 'problems'. I would also surmise that if the AOPS is calling the RCAF, or anyone for that matter, for help its probably already too late.
For sure, I was oversimplifying the situation. However, problems sometimes develop where you are, instead of before you get there... AOPS on station may not have the luxury of avoiding problems. But now have the ability to call for help that can do something about them or help them get out of a jam.

If you'll allow me to return to the "AOPS as security guard" analogy. If the violent bank robber know the security guard will call the cops but no one can show up in time to help then is that security guard actually doing anything but keeping honest people honest and minor crimes from happening? But if they know that the security guard makes that call and suddenly SWAT shows up... well there is a big deterrence factor there.

So AOPS doing the security guard work, with the 911 line to the RCAF that actually has effectors to kill shipping is a big difference.

But perhaps I've buried the lead:

  • The RCAF will be able to, independent of the RCN, find, fix and destroy naval targets. This is something they can't do right now without risking the CF-18's well inside AAW bubble.
  • The RCAF will be able to coordinate strikes with the RCN on an enemy task group, in order to create a salvo density large enough to overwhelm enemy defences, from ranges outside of their ability to strike back.
  • The RCAF and RCN will be able to train with each other in various scenarios for both shipping strike and task group defence against strikes and have the training be valuable for both sides (as opposed to just the RCN alone).
  • The RCAF and RCN will likely stand up a working group on that exact task, similar to the one they have for ASW to develop/share tactics and procedures to maximize those effects.

Put an Army HIMARS system on the flight deck of AOPS equipped with PrSM Increment 2 and sink the enemy yourself :ROFLMAO:
