Ugh, everything will probably be switched over by the time the Conservatives form government and get rid of the Trudeau crown, resulting in everything needing to be replaced again.

It is uniquely Canadian, and not tied to British heraldry, so it should be something that serves the test of time regardless of who is in power.
It is considered very controversial and somewhat ugly in heraldic circles. There is the expectation that the next Conservative government will scrape it and replace it with the Tudor Crown as the King was not properly consulted with the use of the Trudeau Crown.

I missed the fact it was still the Dominion of Canada…

Canada is a sovereign nation. It needs to act like it.

It is still the Dominion of Canada and the King gets to choose which heraldic crown will represent him.

"Dominion" has be scrapped from Federal law since 1951 and it stopped being relevant in 1931. The last piece of it all died with Canada Day was officially renamed in 1982. It doesnt appear in law, or the constituation here or in Britain. The UK refers to Canada as a Realm of the Commonwealth.

It is used in the Constitution Act, 1867, which is still in force. Just because it is not regularly used, does not mean that it is not still a legal title.

M’eh. It’s basically a Tudor crown with maple leaves slapped on it. Considering what kind of other made-by-committee abominations we could have ended up with, it’s not the worst design.

It is a duplication of effort though since there was an existing design.

Side note, the Winnipeg Police Service switched to a Tudor crown last year or so. Will they now have to switch to a maple crown now?

I will agree with you there, however, heraldric circles are also full of odd ducks who will argue over the size and positioning of a sprig of pine.

A very cost-effective and fiscally responsible move, from a party who claims to rail against government waste on behalf of Canadians

as the King was not properly consulted with the use of the Trudeau Crown.
Looks like he was consulted in some way to me:

That's His Majesty's scribble in the top right corner.

I was not a fan of it when it was first presented, but it has grown on me, to be honest.

Years ago Ottawa decided that it needed to review our motto "Hostie Acie Nominati and some Latin geek said it was grammatically incorrect.

We told them politely that this had been our motto for 130 years and we were not changing it. In other words "fuck off"

Supposedly, the replacement to "Heart of Oak" is going to be released soon. I can just imagine how stirring it will be.:giggle:

Does anyone really get emotionally charged over these songs ?

Who cares. I think we should adopting something by the village people...

The point of the switch wasnt tied to anything political, its been planned for decades but to save cost it wasnt executed until the Queen passed since the crown would of had to be changed anyway. By switching to the canadian crown we will no longer have to change everything we change monarchs. Which by all accounts might happen several times over the next 80 years.
