USMC RESPECT
"Marines are about the most peculiar breed of human beings I have ever
witnessed. They treat their service as if it were some kind of cult,
plastering their emblem on almost everything they own, making themselves up
to look like insane fanatics with haircuts to ungentlemanly lengths,
worshipping their Commandant almost as if he were a god, and making weird
animal noises like a band of savages. They'll fight like rabid dogs at the
drop of a hat just for the sake of a little action, and are the cockiest
sons of bitches I have ever known. Most have the foulest mouths and drink
well beyond man's normal limits, but their high spirits and sense of
brotherhood set them apart and, generally speaking, the United States Marines
I've come in contact with are the most professional soldiers and the finest
men I have ever had the pleasure to meet."
                      --An Anonymous Canadian Citizen

*************What the "Marines Marine" said*********************

"When the new recruit is standing in front of his D.I., he knows what he had
to do, what his D.I. wants him to do, his Mama, his Daddy, his leader says
to do. But what our whole recruit training program is heading towards is that
Marine doing what he has been trained for when his leader, or any other
"senior" is not there looking over him. Those moments when he is alone in
combat, and he has to rely on one person, himself!"
---Chesty Puller's Rules of Success!

**********************************************************************

                         **********What the Navy said*********

"Uncommon valor was a common virtue."   --The words of Fleet Admiral Chester
W. Nimitz in tribute to the Marines who were at Iwo Jima.

                  ~~~~~~~~Why Marines Drink~~~~~~~~
The Marine Corps was created on November 10, 1775, in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania at Tun Tavern!
                      ~~~~~~~Why Leathernecks~~~~~~~

                                     "LEATHERNECKS":
The Marines' long-standing nickname goes back to the leather stock or
nekcpiece, which was part of the Marine Uniform from 1775 to 1875. The
leather bands around their throats were intended to ensure that Marines kept
their heads erect. Descended from the stock is the standing collar, hallmark
of the Marines blues, whites, and evening dress. Like its leather ancestor,
the standing collar regulates stance and posture, and thus proclaims the
wearer as a modern "leatherneck."

~~~~~~~~~~Why Marines are called Devil Dogs~~~~~~~~~~~
                                        "DEVIL DOGS":
In the Belleau Wood Fighting in 1918, the Germans received a thorough
indoctrination in the fighting ability of Marines. Fighting through
supposedly impenetrable woods and capturing
supposedly untakeable terrain, the persistent attacks, delivered with
unbelievable courage soon had the Germans calling the Marines
"Teufelhunden," referring to fierce fighting dogs of legendary origin.
~~Why Marines are Fierce and Proud and have high Spirts~~
                                    "ESPRIT DE CORPS":
The "spirit" of a unit. This spirit is commonly reflected by all members. It
implies devotion and loyalty to the Marine Corps, with deep regard for the
history, traditions, and honor. It is the epitome of pride in the unit!
                    ~~~~Why Marines say "Semper Fi"~~~~

The Marine Corps motto is "Semper Fidelis," which is Latin for"Always
Faithful". To date, there is no record of a mutiny of U.S. Marines. The
motto, sometimes shortened to "Semper Fi," was adopted about 1883.

~~~What   one of the MOST DECORATED Army Soldiers Says~~~
"If I were King, I'd close Army entry training and send all future Infantry
grunts to the Marines. The Corps still produces trained and disciplined
soldiers who still know how to fight and make it on a killing field.   --Col
David Hackworth, USA Army (Ret),one of Americas most highly decorated
soldier
                                      ~~ The Army again~~
"I can't say enough about the two Marine divisions. If I use words like
'brilliant,' it would really be an under description of the absolutely
superb job that they did in breaching the so-called 'impenetrable barrier.'
It was a classic-absolutely classic-military breaching of a very very tough
minefield, barbed wire, fire trenches-type barrier."
-- Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, Commander, U.S. Central Command, February 1991
                            ~~ Why Marines Swagger~~
"these Marines have the swagger, confidence, and hardness that must have
been in Stonewall Jackson's Army of the Shenandoah. They remind me of the
Coldstreams at Dunkerque."
                          --General Douglas MacArthur
                          ~~~~About The Korea War~~~~
"The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of
Marines. Lord, how they could fight."
                - Major General Frank Lowe, U.S. Army

                 ~~~~Why Marines are first, a Rifleman~~~~
"The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle."
                   -- General Pershing, U.S. Army
~~~While they may never admit it, the reason the army loves Marines~~~

         "The more Marines I have around, the better I like it."
                          -- General Clark, U.S. Army

                 ~~~~Why the Navy Likes Marines~~~~
"You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of
arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth- and the
amusing thing about it is that they are."
     - -Father Kevin Keaney, 1st MarDiv Chaplain, Korean War
"The Marine Corps has just been called by the New York Times, 'The elite of
this country. I think it is the elite of the world."
                     -- Admiral William Halsey, U.S. Navy
Marines know how to use their bayonets. Army bayonets may as well be
paper-weights.
                          [Navy Times; November 1994]
                ~~~~~Why the Navy Needs Marines~~~~~

"A ship without Marines is like a garment without buttons."
                          -- Admiral David Dickson Porter

              ~~~Why Marines do not have coed training~~~
First the "feminnazis" integrated Air Force basic training, then the Army
went coed, while the Navy, in an attempt to deflect the bad press from
Tailhook, surrendered in 1994. But the Corps stood tall and said "No way.
Won't work. And now the Corps can say "I told you so."
                         --Col David Hackworth, US Army-Ret
                  ~~~Why Marines have high stardards~~~

The Marines keep their standards up and their leadership is dynamite! It is
the same kind of leadership we have seen throughout the Marines' history,
and they are not lowering the bar. They are increasing the bar, and they
have long lines of people who want to join the Marine Corps
                       --Col David Hackworth, US Army-Ret

                ~~~Why the Army can never be Marines~~~
"Why the heck can't the Army do it if the Marines can; they are all the same
kind of men...why can't the Army be like the Marines?"
--Commander in Chief, AEF, General John Pershing, U.S. Army
      Answer, Marines Don't Wear Brownie or Girl Scout Hats
      ~~~If you don't UNDERSTAND why I posted this info~~~

"Civilians cannot and will not understand us because they are not one of us.
The Corps - we love it, live it and shall die for it. If you have never been
in it, you shall never understand it. Semper
Fidelis!"                                 --GySgt Brad Lemke USMC

          ~~~~What all Marines are taught in boot camp~~~~
"Sweat dries, blood clots, bones heal. Suck it up. Be a Marine."
                  ~~~Why you can sleep easy tonight~~~

"Sleep easy tonight, the Marines are always on duty"

~~~Dedicated to all , The Few, The Proud, The Marines~~~
                                        HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Pappy and all the other Leathernecks out there. I, and some others from here in Windsor used to go over to Detroit for the annual celebration. For some reason though, we haven't gotten an invite for the last couple of years. We certainly enjoyed ourselves and even provided a Colour Guard on occasion. Maybe it's just the times.
Semper Fi and Happy Birthday to Pappy, Matt and all other Marines! The Corps is an example of how things can be done.
I was the Canadian resident student at USMC C&SC Quantico 97/98: I will always remember with great pride my time alongside the Corps. Here in Afgh I serve every day beside great USMC Officers and NCOs, and see the fit, keen looking USMC troops from the rifle battalions that are here.There is much we can learn from the Corps if we want to build the ethos of "soldier first".
Hoist a pint of Tun Tavern for me.
Cheers.
MARINE CORPS ORDERS
No. 47 (Series 1921)
HEADQUARTERS U.S. MARINE CORPS
Washington, November 1, 1921
759. The following will be read to the command on the 10th of November, 1921, and hereafter on the 10th of November of every year. Should the order not be received by the 10th of November, 1921, it will be read upon receipt.
(1) On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name "Marine". In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.
(2) The record of our corps is one which will bear comparison with that of the most famous military organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes. From the Battle of Trenton to the Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war, and is the long eras of tranquility at home, generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both hemispheres and in every corner of the seven seas, that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and security.
(3) In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our corps, Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.
(4) This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received from those who preceded us in the corps. With it we have also received from them the eternal spirit which has animated our corps from generation to generation and has been the distinguishing mark of the Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourish Marines will be found equal to every emergency in the future as they have been in the past, and the men of our Nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of the Sea" since the founding of the Corps.
JOHN A. LEJEUNE,
Major General Commandant
75705--21
"From the Halls of Montezuma
to the Shores of Tripoli,
We fight our country's battles
On the land as on the sea.
First to fight for right and freedom,
And to keep our honor clean,
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
"Our flag's unfurl'd to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes,
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.
"Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines."
229 Years of Service to Country.  4 years of which I've had the privilege to serve Corps and Country.  As with every birthday, the 229th is no different in that Marines are to be found across the globe doing what they do best, Winning Battles!
On Wednesday I too will raise a glass and drink to my fallen brothers and to the United States Marine Corps.
Semper Fidelis!
10 November 2004
The Commandant of the Marine Corps'
2004 Birthday Message
Two hundred and twenty-nine years ago, the Second Continental Congress established a Corps of Marines to fight for a democratic people's independence. Since then countless Marines have raised their hand and sworn to defend our Nation's freedoms and preserve its liberties. This year's anniversary again finds Marines engaged throughout the globe for the same noble purposes. The bravery, heroism and selflessness of all Marinesâ ”wherever they are servingâ ”have added significantly to our rich legacy and measured up to the high standards that have come to epitomize all who wear the eagle, globe and anchor.
The current battlefields of the global war on terror are linked to the storied campaigns of our past by an unbroken tradition of proud and loyal service. At New Providence, Chapultepec, Belleau Wood, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, the Chosin Reservoir, Con Thien, Kuwait and now in places like Fallujah, Marines have consistently demonstrated a dedication to duty, a commitment to warfighting excellence, and a devotion to each other that has instilled a fierce determination to overcome seemingly impossible challenges. Our warrior ethos is and will continue to be the Corps' hallmark.
The fortitude and sacrifices of Marines and their families have been vital in protecting our Nation from those who would do us harm. Whether preparing and sustaining our agile force or engaged in battle, the esprit de corps, tireless energy, calm courage and inspired leadership of Marines continue to make a monumental difference in this world. Your unselfish dedication and significant accomplishmentsâ ”demonstrated repeatedly over this past year in numerous places such as the Anbar province of Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, Haiti and in the crucial job here at home supporting our deployed forcesâ ”are deeply respected and valued by your fellow Americans.
Marines, as we celebrate with friends and families the founding of our beloved Corps, you should take pride in our long history of distinguished service to this great Nation and its citizens. I ask you to remember especially the sacrifices of our fallen and wounded comrades. Finally, rededicate yourselves to taking care of one another and ensuring we remain the finest warfighting organization in the world.
Happy Birthday, Marines. Semper Fidelis, and Keep Attacking!
