I had braces when I was younger to correct an underbite and they put a retainer in afterward. A few years later the orthodontist removed one section of the wire retainer because it was on the biting surface and kept breaking. For the last little while my teeth have been moving back to their original position and are starting to contact and grind. Normally this is something I would consider taking up with the orthodontist who put them in, but I'm posted out west and he's in Ontario. Would the military cover the installation of a new retainer or any other type of orthodontic care in this case? Normally I know this type of thing is considered cosmetic but I think it sort of qualifies as something that could arguably affect performance of duties, especially if the teeth begin to grind and cause pain or headache.
I'm going to go into the MIR when I get some time and get it checked out but does anyone have any insight into this ahead of time? I've seen a few people walking around some bases with braces.
