Peq 2 flood laser...What's the purpose?

Presumably, since your NVGs work on IR, it would serve as a sort of NVG-only flashlight, like the IR searchlight on the T-54/55 and T-62 (?)

Also, Keep in mind that the PAQ/PEQ family of kit isn't exactly new, with the wide availibility of modern NVGs, some of their features may be rather irrelevent today,

To light up a situation with IR light......It's effective in a really dark houses and alleys.  Better solution is to get is a IR cover for the surefire.

The Illuminator setting on the PEQ and ATTILA systems is multifunctional.

1) Set at a wide dispersion it can illuminate a large area to be observed (much further out than the Surefire IR light)

2) It can be used to indicate area tgt's

3) It can be used to direct Air assets on tgt - and in theory designate ground tgt's.

4) It can be used a CQB aid for ponit shooting when set to a more narrow field.

5) With the pattern generators on it can be used to designate/indicate section/platoon areas of responsibility to lower and higher commanders.

Don't leave home without it...

Don't you have to get issued it first?  ;D

Don't you have to get issued it first?  Grin

Well gee, look who you're talking to.....

CFL prolly went and bought his own on ebay, hence all these questions and the lack of money.

Hey we have 3 Peq 2's in Adm coy.  With the pattern generators does that imply that the Peq 2's are for section commander types while the Paq 4 is for joe infanteer?

You kidding BS.  I would think that about Kevin except he probably got it direct from the manufacturer.  Me on the other hand just got them into stores and I figure I should get the low down so I have a shmick when people ask me.

Heh, it was amusing because there was a PAQ-4 for sale on ebay, some time ago, and the seller made it quite clear that the item was of Canadian issue. Hmm......

Yes the PEQ is the CLAD (Commanders Laser Aiming Device), while the PAQ is the LAD.

The pattern generators are so the Coy/Pl/sect commander know who is who in the zoo - and the subordinates can follow along.

The PEQ and Attila's also have high (not eye safe) power setting that are MUCH more visible.

I had a personal PAQ4-C, but I sold it and am saving up for an ATTILA...  ;)

Go figure.  You probably have the latest night vision stuff out there as well.

On a side note what is the name of the mounting bracket for the Paq 4 that slides over the front sight post?

Depends which one you mean -do you mean the CF one we now have  - or the older one that slid over and went back over the handguard.

We have about 4 different system in place...

The barrel (through handguard) system.
The FSB Clamp
M4 and M5 RAS
TRIAD-1

All of which are still used in some form of another
