Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

Back in day when the RCMP had small (like, one member to maybe a dozen) detachments dotted across Ontario, rumour has it that the staffing at one were dispersed after it was discovered they were all wife swapping. New staff were brought in an a couple of years later, the same thing. Shortly after, the detachment was closed but it was around the time they were starting to close a lot of them anyway

We had a detachment like that. Lots of married pairs, separated and living with other members at the same office. We called it Couples By The Sea.

Reminds me of something I read,

Wives of Police Protest Women in Patrol Cars

"I just saw one sitting in a patrol car fixing her hair,” said Mrs. Sally Corley, patting her own short red hair, as she walked with Mrs. Jane Wanser from Police Plaza to City Hall yesterday to protest the Police Department's assigning policewomen to patrol cars with male officers.

I thought we were well past this. Apparently not.

(It seems I forgot to hit 'post', and building on something I said back in 2021:

That was very real. I coached the first female rookie at a small detachment in part because wives of the other qualified members said 'hell no' (I was single). A good coach/rookie relationship back then often included off-duty socialization (dinner with the family, etc.) Female members in small towns had a tough go. It was difficult to hang with male members (Legion, hockey, in somebody's basement sucking beer after shift), wives usually wouldn't have anything to do with them and because it was a small detachment they didn't have a critical mass of female peers.

This would have been an excellent sub plot in Cardinal.
