Pope Francis- Medical Issues/Death April 20/ 2025

Already a lot of memes of the pope and JD on the World Wide Web.

Too soon for that sort of thing, in my opinion.

Almost as distasteful as this,

Fury at 'disrespectful' mourners taking selfies with the Pope's corpse

Interesting timing that the movie Conclave just won a few awards from the Screen Actors Guild and is up for a bunch of others.
If you want an older-school version of the drama of picking a Pope (with a titch of Cold War narrative thrown in), this one entertains, too ...
GROSSLY optimistic ending, but an interesting take produced in the late 1960's.

Aaaaaand, it wouldn't be a race without odds & prediction algorithms, would it?
"Papability Index @pope_predictor - Who’s going to be the next Pope? I have an algorithm that ranks Cardinals according to the likelihood they’ll be the next pontiff." (x.com)

In a more serious response, it would appear to be the WATSON handheld long-range multiband Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems jammer.

Just read the Vatican News and 133 Cardinals are eligible to vote for the next Pontiff.

They are all under the age of 80 so all eligible to vote. The number of Cardinals is 135 but two cannot attend for health reasons.

And one for ... being naughty (no, not THAT kind of naughty) ...

Apparently the Pope just out of hospital sent a letter telling one cardinal he was PNG for the conclave; another Cardinal was ordered not to wear the vestments of his station after being convicted of sexual abuse.

No new Pope yet ....
Next ballot: 1030 Vatican time/0430 Eastern tomorrow

Will they cut the rations to the cardinals if they don't decide quickly? Bread and water....and wine.....

Some interesting choices are the frontrunners. Notably, one is Filipino and would be the first Asian pope in over a thousand years, last being Gregory III from Syria who died in 741. Another frontrunner is the Cardinal of Jerusalem and very bravely offered himself as an exchange for all the Israeli children kidnapped by Hamas. He is anti-Hamas but outspoken in defence of Palestinian civvies and pro-diplomacy in the ongoing conflict.

After 3 days they go down to one meal a day. It's a wierd rule after the one conclave in the middle ages that took 3 years.
Not to worry - sounds like they won't be whooping it up, culinarily speaking :)
