Pope Francis- Medical Issues/Death April 20/ 2025

I hope he meets the moment. Hes at a major disadvantage being American. Certainly would not have been my choice, I would have gone with a cardinal from the Global South. That said, the Cardinals know what they're doing and I wish the best to him.

That will make Trump happy, I foresee him posting how this is proof that America is great and it will be due to his influence.
Which is why I wouldn't have gone American. They don't need even more misplaced chauvinism. That said, I trust the Cardinals and his speech seems to reinforce his priorization of the poor and marginalized.

He could start one in the White House

Actually, you may have a bit of both, here - from his bio ...
... born in Chicago, he spent a fair bit of time in Peru - enough to become a citizen there.

Late add: a bit more on the guy from the Vatican info-machine, and elsewhere ....

Based on this from earlier this year, Pope Leo doesn't seem a fan of misplaced chauvinism, either.

Leaving out the religious bent, those would be my priorities also. Family first, the rest fall in line dependent on my personal interactions with each. The rest of the world is definitely my last concern, if at all.

You forget that Peter went to Rome, the heart of the Empire that was occupying the Holy Land. And in 1978, a Pope from Communist Poland was chosen.

Based on another forum I follow that is mostly US members, he is already a "communist" Pope because he backtalked Vance. That and he was speaking 'ferrin' and not 'American'.

It seems his views may not necessarily align with an Administration that wants to move the goalposts around things like love, loyalty, citizenship, guilt, etc.

Leo XIV seems to be angering people on both the right and the left. That means he's probably going to be a good pope.
Like many things these days, he's American enough to love/hate as desired, and not American enough to love/hate as desired. #PapalRorschach

Perhaps. He's the new CEO of a corporation with a billion or so shareholders that I have no shares in, so beyond the theatre, my interest is over.
I'd suggest keeping an interested eye on him. The Papacy and the Catholic Church in general has insane soft power. You'd be surprised the influence a savvy pope can have on global affairs, Francis was quite astute at it imo, he shaped a lot of global conversations.
