Hey everyone, I've been lurking around the boards for the past week and have been reading up on all of the preperation I should do in order to be a great contribution to the Canadian Forces.  As of now I haven't filled out my application as I am training at the gym to get in better shape to prepare myself for what I will encounter.  I need to shed about 30 pounds in order to be in the right physical shape to keep up with what I would encounter at BMQ.  I know in my heart this is what I want to do with my life, for me to not jump on such a great career opportunity as well as doing something as fullfilling as being a member of the Canadian Forces would be foolish in my opinion.  I attended the Canadian Forces open house in Oshawa this past Friday and was very impressed with the professionallism exhibited by the members that were there to answer all of my questions.  The main concern I expressed to them was that I felt I was not in good enough physical condition to join but I was told that I would be whipped into shape and not to worry.  I have decided that I am going to get in better shape though before I even begin the process as I would like to show up and prove that this is what I want and that I am commited.  I will try and keep all of you updated on how things are going and look forward to researching more on this site.  Thanks for creating such a great forum as it is priceless to hear about experiences from people who are in the Forces already rather than reading a generic description on the Forces.ca website.

Good Luck, be carefull of building your expectations of what this job is before you get there.  Don't get me wrong I love my job, yet it has its highs and lows.  Go in with a open mind and a willingness to learn and apply yourself.  You may find the job is everything you expected and more.  Or more likely something differant then what you thought it would be.  ( I am not knocking you or your expectations just stating what I see in allot of soldiers in my trade )

My advice is this, you decided to join, good for you.  That is the first step, including getting in shape, the second step is completing your Basic and Trade Qualification.  The 3rd and final stage is give your self time to be familiar with your new career before you decide if this is what you want to do.  If so then may you have a long and successfull career.  If not then no harm no foul, once your contract is up you can move onto other things.  Hopefully a better person for your experiences.

Finally kudos  on the working out.  Just don't forget to get your cardio in,  running, walking, hiking.  There are threads that discuss that in detail.
