Question about studies and training

Hello guys

Just a quick question for you. I'll be done with my degree in 2 years, winter 2007, and consider joining as a logistic officer since I'll have a business administration degree. My question is, is it possible to join and begin my training as an officer next year in 2006 and then, when I'll graduate, start working in my domain, wether it is finance, accountability or operational management, right away? To make it short, can I begin my training even if I'm not completely graduated but in the process? Considering the long delay of recruitment, am I better to start applying now for next year?

Thank you in advance

While you can apply a couple of months before the completion of your degree you can't be enrolled before you have your degree.  However, you could join the reserves and then transfer to the Reg F once you have your degree.

Which means that a year of unemployment and waiting can go during the recruiting process and I'm not even sure to be accepted. Better have a plan B with this option.

This, however, is more interesting. Hope the transferring process goes well though. I would not want to be stuck in the reserves. Thxs for your quick reply.

My advice is get yourself parked at your local CFRC ASAP, the earlier the join the better it is for you. I component transfered to the Reg Force after my first year of university and got the next three years paid off by the good old CF in return I had to serve only 4 more years after Grad. Plus it takes a long time to get your application processed (those damned Personal Letters of Reference) so if you apply in the next 2 months and if there are no complications along the way, chances are you could be loaded on IAP in May or June 2006 and start your military career. It will benefit you to join early because you could get commissioned (if you successfully complete IAP and BOTP in the next two years) right after you graduate from university and move immediately onto the next phases of your MOC which will be far more interesting. In this way your career starts immediately after Grad. Head over to the CFRC and explain to them your situation, I am sure that they will be able to help you almost immediately. Cheers and Good Luck! :cdn:

Just a heads up...  "business administration diploma"

To be an officer you need a degree...there is abit of a difference between a degree and a diploma.  A 3 year college diploma does not count as a degree, however a 3 year university degree would...

Sorry, this is my mistake. I will graduate from a university and get a degree, as I said earlier. I think I just mistranslated diplôme to diploma. There's no such difference in French vocabulary since we mostly use the word diplôme universitaire rather than a degré universitaire. Thank you for your heads up though.  ;)

Any suggestions about my concern?

Once he has his degree, what is the average length of time it takes to transfer from Reserves to Reg F?

There is no average time as every application is different. However, with the new CT procedures in effect perhaps the transfer time will be shorter.

Well from personal experience if you were to apply for RegF around the time you graduate you have a shot at having your file complete for the spring selection board.  If this is the route you take I would advise you to talk to your RC around Feb or March and try to get the tests and medical out of the way so that nothing can be left to chance.  If you are selected at the spring board there is a good chance you'd be in St Jean for Sept.  If however your file is not in for that selection board chances are you would have to wait over a year until the next one (not many logistics positions open at the fall board) and this would mean even longer to get on IAP/BOTC

So basically I guess what I am saying is to make sure your file is in for the spring selection board when you graduate and you should not have any real problems.
