Hello,

I am am currently working full-time with the government and I would like to join the Canadian Forces Reserves.
My primary question is, do I need to choose a trade when I apply or do I choose one after basic training? Also, a lot of trades require degrees and I do not plan on going back to school, is there something called Artillery Reserves?
I've tried to find this answer on the CF website and all these forums. I'm starting to feel like I am missing something or misunderstanding something.

Thank you so much for anyone who can clear this up for me.

Yes, there are Artillery Reserves and Artillery NCM does not require a degree.  Which unit you join will be dependent on where you live; search for the unit(s) near you.

Thank you for your reply.

That cleared up my one and only question that I have! But i am sure there are more to come.

So I would have to be selected for the trade of Artillery before joining? Artillery is a trade, correct?

Go to Forces.ca
Go to Browse Jobs

All of those names there are trades. You must be selected for one of those trades that operates in the Reserve unit you wish to join.

Edit: link was spelled wrong
Edit 2: Go into the Unit Recruiting office and speak with the staff there. Some units have staff available all summer, some don't. They will tell you what trades their unit utilizes and which ones they are hiring for

Someone kept telling me that artillery was not available to as a Reserves trade, that why I was so confused.

Thank you so much for clearing it up for me!

Also keep in mind that there must be an open position (in the trade chosen) at the unit you want to join.
