I have been plugging away for 4 and a half years now trying to get into the DEO programme, and now must wait another 2 years for an additional check as I was out of the country for mor than 180 days. I would like to enroll before the retirement age, so I was wondering if I could just say to hell with the DEO and go into the local reserves instead as a NCO? Would this be easy or would this entail some other beauarcatic nightmare-ish procedure?

Still requires a pre-sec to be done.

A pre-sec? That's what it's called huh? This came as a surprise to me as nothing at all was mentioned to me about it nor have I been able to find info on it. I can't help but think this procedure is an entire waste of money and time, and a slap in the face to those who want to put their life on the line.

These posts certainly evoke a lot of empathy from me.

If you have NOTHING to add, then let it evoke your silence, A-hole! What are you, a five year old?

He is probably the guy doing your file.........oh, and welcome to the warning system.

Chalupa,

Think of the military as any other employer.

You put your paperwork in = application for employment.

Employer does'nt return your call for 4.5 years. Would you say that they are interested in you or not?

Perhaps you need to figure out what is making your application less competitive in relation to others and attempt to remedy that problem, instead of flaming a recruiter who is generally predisposed towards answering questions from prospective members.

I can't help but think this procedure is an entire waste of money and time.
You think it is a waste of time and money to determine the wherabouts and activities of individuals who are seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment, training, benefits and salary, as well as the opportunity to be a leader of men in this military, command millions of dollars of equipment and shape our foreign policy and place in the world? For all we know, you could be a career criminal, terrorist or worse - the security clearance also determines if you have been truthful on your application or not.

It was your choice to leave the country - take responsibility for your actions.

I'd call that a worthwhile endeavour.

Boy oh boy!
Why do I waste my time here?

You say you have been trying 4 1/2 years for D.E.O, yet you seem from your post to lack the maturity required of NCMs.
If you had been trying for so long, how is it that you do not know how hard it would be to get into the reserves?
Since we are not in a Total War at the moment, and as such do not need cannon fodder, why not try the reseves and see what they say?  I would suggest going for Ncm in the regular force, but why bother them when they have so many other important things to do?

You will not get far in the army by being in-flexible.
