Im stationed in the USA and am looking to release as I have a reserve job offer back in Canada. I'm on an IPS. The release section won't do the initial interview until 60 days prior to my release date. But until I understand how the process works I.e entitlements and timings for HHT, move, etc to get to my release location I don't even know what to put in for a release date. Anyone have experience with this process...taking your release while out of country with the intent of moving back to Canada? Thanks

If you look in the FSD, I believe this is covered, but I can't quite look right now.  But that'd be my first search!

I don't have first hand knowledge but I have been advised by several people that releasing while OUTCAN is best avoided, especially if it's short notice.  Unfortunately, it's all hearsay and rumour rather anybody's personal experience.  I hope that you're being supported out of Colorado Springs?

The first thing you should do, is to contact the Unit that intends to hire you for the Reserve Job.  Discuss your circumstances and settle on a committed hiring/start date and get that date in writing.  Your release date should be the day prior to the day you start the Reserve job.  So if they wish to start employing you as a Reservist on 15 Sep, they your final Release Date from the Regular Force should be 14 Sep.  Just make sure there are NO gaps in your Service as this can create issues.

Your relocation benefits should be administered under Article 12.9.01 of the CFIRP Manual.

Should you decide to "elect" your IPR at the time of release, then I believe Chap 14 would apply.

Other than that, your release date should revolve around the start date of the Reserve Job.    Good luck!

Release from Regular Force for a Reserve Job?  Hoping there is something more to that one.

DAA is naturally right.

you need to contact the unit, preferably by email, and obtain a preferred start date from them along with a position number and UIC.  You will have to provide this to the release section at least 30 days prior to your approved release date.  You also need to submit your request for release indicating the date you would like.  Note that the date you request may not be the one approved especially with an outcan.

It is important that all dates match so there is no gap in service but it is also important for you to verify possible implications to pension or payouts.  For example if you release Reg F on 14 Sep and sign in for pay with the PRes on 15 Sep this could have a financial impact depending on your situation.
