Edit: this is two major shooters in quebec bow that have had shooters from Alberta. Hard questiond are going to have to be asked about what going on in AB to radicalize two people to cross the country to do this.

It goes beyond one person, AB has a racism and antisemitism problem. Just look at separatists, and their written plans for if they win. It is a mind set, and its predominantly in rural AB. Friend of mines son is half Philippino, and living in Sylvan lake is almost daily racism. Unfortunately I see this also bleed into the CAF, frequent investigations, lack of cultural awareness. This is something that will take generations to change.

Point is we do have systems that work but the fact it keeps happening is a reflection of society at large, which shows we have a problem in education and understanding.

I'm looking at the upcoming court martials. I see a lot of assaults, think one of them is that major buttstroking a subordinate. Trafficking, looks like someone beat up an MP and took their gun or taser.

Racist comments aren't illegal under the criminal code but maybe the CAF needs to start hitting troops who make inappropriate comments with service offences or kick them out.

To a certain extent you will see that in many rural areas. Although, definitely some are a lot worse than others. The other thing is that people are becoming a lot more open about sharing their opinions then they were say two years ago. The comments section on most Facebook post about drive or driving accidents all seem to have a common theme.

The fact that he was no longer serving should lead this to not being attached to the unit long term, as opposed to the CAR being associated with Somiliaia or that incident that occurred with a couple of Queen's Own Rifles a few years back while they were wearing their uniforms.

I followed a link for this story to Facebook and was surprised at the amount of racism and hateful comments on there.

Hard to tell of they're real accounts or not at a quick glance but a number od them seemed to have quite a bit of identifying info.

It isn’t just people born here, I would argue we are bringing in more racists/sexists/intolerant people through immigration than are here naturally.

Just because someone isn’t white doesn’t mean they aren’t racist. Just because you can’t understand the language they speak doesn’t mean they aren’t saying some nasty things.

We were at a the lowest racist point in Canadian history around 2015. I suspect that number has gone up since then between the bleed off from the States political situation and the mass immigration here.

100% many seem to think other ethnicities cant be racist, but oh boy can they. Case and point was my unit having an Asain White Supremacist. That was a weird case.

What I have found is usually they aren’t racist towards caucasian groups, rather their regional ethnic groups/variances. Which I suppose makes sense as usually hatreds/dislikes are based on exposure/history.

Just like how east Indian racism was very low in Canada until a very large number got brought in very quickly. Exposure changed that.

How many people were driven into weird corners of the internet because having a rational discussion at that time was impossible. If you weren't 100% on the side of the government, you were an enemy of science and likely a racist...

Maybe he was already in those weird corners long before it COVID, but are the experts looking into how society's collective and loud demonizing of anyone not "toeing the line" may have created an extremist problem that is just now bubbling up?
