Replacing the Subs

They likely dont wanna lose their gravy train, because if another ship builder opens up shop, it means they could lose the government contracts.

It will take some of the ability that Irving has to dictate the employee/employer relationship they now essentially monopolize. If Irving can act like adults it could make the whole system stronger and promote economic growth in the province and the municipality.

I have zero faith in Irving acting like adults. Irving does not like competition.

Another point I hope I am wrong on.

Lastly I would love to see the Sub facility expanded to include repair of surface ships as well. If there is one thing we need its more capable ship yard space.

With the proposed number of vessels that are being suggested for the navy it would probably be advantageous to build our own graving dock. The time required for a complete overhaul for that number of ships would suggest that it would never be empty.

We have a graving dock on the West coast - probably needs an extension to handle the RCD, but will do fine for subs and CDC as is (I think that the AOPV's are too wide for it).

On the East coast, we have a syncrolift that has been extended to take the HAL's and IRO's (it was originally only for the subs). Pretty sure they can be extended again to take the RDC without too much trouble.

With an expanded fleet, an expanded logistics and maintenance footprint will be required.

The logistics footprint is pushing forward, unsure about the maintenance side.

This
The ‘size’ of the 15 Rivers vs the 3 old IRO and 12 Halifax’s alone will require more people, repair infrastructure and support only. Then add in the 6 AOPS into the mix and finally through in another 16-20 ‘minifaxs’ - totally apparent to all with eyes that we must increase our repair facilities in addition to all else we are doing.

You would be surprised how many are blind.
