Interesting article. I've heard many adjectives used to compare nuclear boats to classic propulsion boats, but "more nimble" has never been one of them.

Realistically, the western Pacific is to Canada what the north Atlantic is to Australia or Japan or Korea. For the RCN, the CSPS is primarily about the GIUK and the Arctic archipelago choke points. The CSPS is NATO centric and ASW focused. The RCN wants Hunter Killer boats with the highest survivability . . . aka stealth . . . ratings possible. The RCN knows the two greatest threats to boats are enemy Hunter Killers and ASW aircraft. The 212CD has the best stealth available to defeat the enemy subs and is the only boat that has an anti ASW aircraft weapon, a Canadian made weapon.
The guesswork and opinions about delivery schedules is fun but the critical path is far more likely to be the RCN’s ability to train the required crews.
Hmmm, IF we decide to buy Hanwha subs we can partner with them directly on this little bit of news….
Trump says South Korea has approval to build nuclear-powered submarine

Trump says South Korea has approval to build nuclear-powered submarine
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he has given South Korea approval to build a nuclear-powered submarine, a dramatic move that would admit Seoul to a small club of nations possessing such vessels. The submarine will be built in a Philadelphia shipyard, where South Korean firms have...www.reuters.com
EDIT - the world truly is getting a lot more scary.
Would be very interesting to see that if we choose SK for our subs if we partner with them in the future development of these nuc boats.I have no issues with SK having nuc boats.

The good thing is we've got about 5+yrs to worry about this.I am not sure sure the dominant left hand side of our political spectrum will ever allow that to happen.
But I agree.

				These guys are shameless!
The submarine Carney got to see was only recently launched and built for the South Korean navy. Yet, in a bold marketing move, it flew a Canadian flag from its mast,
Carney tours newly completed South Korean sub as Canada weighs multi-billion dollar order
PM got to see what kind of submarine South Korea wants to sell to Canada
Showing the prime minister the boat under construction was a not-so-subtle demonstration by the Koreans that their production lines are active and they can live up to the pledge to deliver four submarines to Canada by 2035 — the navy’s deadline to begin retiring the four, old Victoria-class boats.
Read Hunt for Red October once, and maybe Cardinal of the Kremlin?Where do you get your hard fast knowledge from ? What is your experience in the Naval and/or Submarine community ?
Its not the left hand side that is the only problem . There are plenty on the right who look at it as an exorbitant expense. Actually what I find is penny pinchiers on the right are the biggest challenge to Canada having nice things. Always shrieking about taxes and government spending.I am not sure sure the dominant left hand side of our political spectrum will ever allow that to happen.

I'd like to point out that you currently have a functioning government...Agree!
I've said it many times on here, Canadians are the cheapest people in the world.

I found at the end of the article a sobering point about our underspending:These guys are shameless!

I found at the end of the article a sobering point about our underspending:
“ The tour came one day after the Parliamentary Budget Office released a report that quantified how much the Trudeau government underspent on equipment over seven years.
Between the fiscal years of 2017-18 to 2023-24, actual capital defence spending fell short of planned amounts by $18.5 billion, said the analysis, released Wednesday.”
We could have already purchased the submarines with that shortfall!

Sorry Kev, shouldn't there be some sort of emoji here? Something likeI'd like to point out that you currently have a functioning government...

Humour aside, I can't agree with you. The last 11 years have probably been the most dysfunctional parliament I can remember. Scandals, theft of the public purse (green slush fund, arrive scam and more), the most ethic violations we've seen from a sitting government and it goes on and on.
