Replacing the Subs

From Defense News:
The government proposes to parliament to increase the cost framework for Norway’s submarine program by 46 billion kroner to cover the expense of adding two boats, it said in a statement on Friday. Norway will help finance a second production line in Germany to ensure the new submarines can be built quickly enough.

Regardless if we chose them or not, its a good thing our submariners are out there gaining as much experience as possible.

Navy hosts Canadian submariner aboard 3,000-ton submarine amid export bid

The Navy invited a Canadian submariner aboard its 3,000-ton submarine during recent maritime drills, officials said Thursday, as Korea seeks to win a major deal to supply submarines to Canada.

The Canadian submariner joined Korean troops on the ROKS Ahn Mu for a six-day exercise that concluded Wednesday as part of the Silent Shark drills, a combined anti-submarine warfare exercise jointly held by Korea and the United States near Guam, according to the Navy.

It marked the first time a foreign submariner boarded Korea's homegrown 3,000-ton submarine, while submariners from overseas have trained alongside Korean service members on smaller 1,200-ton and 1,800-ton submarines during multinational drills.

I bet you his forehead has some dents. He's tall for a Submariner.

Norway announces another 2 subs to be purchased, total on order now 6. Not sure they should be announcing this stuff until AFTER our decision is made, lol. Harder and harder to go with them if they continue to clog up the delivery timelines.

Norway plans to purchase two additional Type 212CD submarines from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems

The operation, announced days ago by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, raises the total number of units ordered to six, with an estimated cost close to 100 billion Norwegian kroner (around 9 billion dollars), consolidating one of NATO’s most ambitious submarine programs.
The Norwegian Ministry of Defence specified that the first submarine will be delivered in 2029, while the remaining units will enter service on a staggered basis throughout the following decade.

Why should they care? They're just buying it, they're not the ones trying to sell it to other countries.

Norway is actively lobbying Canada alongside the Germans to get us to adopt the Type 212CD, they will benefit from another NATO nation purchasing and operating 12 of the same boats they are.

Not really, Norway and Germany are joined at the hip for this submarine deal. They are a package deal and both have been actively on our side of the pond promoting it jointly.

Have a read of what's occurring this week on our end.
