Replacing the Subs

As soon as the announcement is official, the first groups of sailors already identified will be sent to S Korea to start learning, this will take the form of DL, classroom instruction, alongside training and at sea experience. There is a good possibility that S Korea may lend us a boat in their waters to use. At some point some members of the crew will be sent to the shipyard and as the build progresses the first crew along with some members of the 2nd will bring the first boat into service. At some point the first boat will come to Canada to be shown off for recruitment purposes and at the same time train new submariners. Some members of the first couple of crews will be selected for training cadre.
I would love a Great Lakes Deployment for that…

A bit of wishful reporting from Asia ;)

Canada Moves Towards Selecting South Korea for Submarine Project

Multiple sources indicate that Canada is leaning towards selecting South Korea as the preferred bidder for its $60 billion next-generation submarine project. However, final negotiations are ongoing regarding whether to award the entire contract to South Korea or to split it with Germany.

According to officials, the Canadian government is seriously considering South Korea's proposal, but the final contracting method has not yet been confirmed.

A representative from South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy refrained from commenting on the negotiations but stated that the government is expecting "positive news."

A German submarine expert familiar with the negotiations noted, "Even if a split order is made, I understand that South Korea is likely to secure a larger share," adding that the announcement is being delayed due to ongoing detailed negotiations.

Remember to leave out a good bottle for Submarine Santa tonight, or else we might end up with 12 OceanGates!
For some, as long as they're built by a Canadian company in Canada they could care less how dangerous they are.

20 minute offset. My guess is a Hanwha announcement in Halifax, then a major facilities and infrastructure announcement in Esquimault.
I very much hope so, a split fleet would be catastrophic for the RCN. Not that the PMO seems to care about operational reality given its leanings for major procurement programs as of late.....

What specific procurement decisions with announced results cause you to say the PMO doesn’t care about operational reality?
