Hey, I was considering putting my name in for work up training for some Task Force that is going to be going to Afghanistan next year.  The work up training is going to be 18 months long.  I was just wondering what to expect during this training.

Is it going to be like you're on course where you get yelled at all the time?  Will I be with other armourred guys or will it be mixed (infantry/armour/engineers, etc etc)?

Any info and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of an 18 month pre-trainning.  That maybe the entire length of the class "c" contract including the tour.  And no pre-trainning isn't like basic where you get yelled at all the time and stuff.

Normaly tours are 6 months in duration, so the 18 months would include the tour and work-up training and readjustment upon return, and post tour leave.

You would be working as a combined arms task force.

Hope this helps.

Strange.  My WO said it was work up training for one of the Task Forces going to Kabul.  He said it was 18 months work up training, and if the task force was going on the RoTo, we would be going with them.  If not, we would have to be on the next Roto.

Maybe I just heard wrong.

There are some interesting things going on right now.  I believe the length of the class C contract is 10 months.  You will need to train to ELOC Level 3 at your unit and level 4 at CAC before the contract.  We should get the briefing soon (I hope).

Don't think that you'll be put in the Recce squadron as a crewman to fill in a hole....

It hasn't happened in Bosnia or the past 3 tours to Afghan.....

CIMIC driver -   ;D

Honestly other than the occassional R031 that came in from XXXXX to do a week here and their I dont think ANY R0XX's where employed in trade.

Now the upcoming Op Archer in K town will be mandated to take 18 R031's per reg force coy....   ::)

KevinB:

Roto 2 rotated in sections from XXXXX for service with the FP Coy  - AFAIK it was for a month at a time.  I don't know if ATHENA 3 is doing the same.  There were no PRes Black Hats with Recce Sqn.

There is not currently any plans to have reservists in Recce Sqn on tour now or in the near future. On Roto 13 Op Palladium (Bosnia) there were none, and it was much more quiet.  ;)

It is a reality of life now that unless reservists get Coyotte and LAV skills they cannot be emploed in those units.

While my CIMIC driver or CIMIC NCO/Offficer comment was somehwta in jest - it is todays reality.

There's a fair amount of reserve engineers going over in the Engr squadron on roto 4... but you're right, aside from that reserve augmentation is limited to individual driver/staff officer type jobs... except for the D&S pl in Camp Mirage of course...
