Reservist of Regs.?

  First things first, I am obviously new to this site and this is my first post of many. I have been comming here for the last week, after stumbling upon the site searching for information on a school project. The site is very informative and is an all around great web site. Second of all, thumbs up to the web masters and administrators for taking such care of the site and its members.
  Now to get to business. My name is (Tpr)Andrew Parsons, I am 18 years old and am currently serving as a Reservist,  8CH being my home Unit. I've been in for almost one full year comming this February 25. When I'm not on duty or exercise, I am at (high) school, grade 11 , 2nd year. What I am wondering about is, what is recommended or opinions on joining Regs. straight out of high school, or staying Reservist for a couple years then switch over? I'm not sure as to what I should do, take the Regs. head on out of school, or stay Reservist a year or 2 to better understand the military?
  Any feedback or thoughts as to what would be a good plan would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to anyone who I have bored with the intro., I just thought it as a friendly gesture. Thank you for your time.

You are still in school, so you will have lots of time to make a decission.  You will have lots of time to experience what life is like in the Hussars as a Reservist, and you will probably have a chance to Exercise and work in CFB Gagetown where you will be exposed to the Regular Force.  By the time you graduate, you should have a better idea of what your plans will be.

Career courses (like PLQ) are easier to get in the res.  So get as many as you can beofre switching, it makes for speedy promoitions.

I was in the res for 6 years before coming to the regs.  Yes plq is easier to get in the res but when you join the regs you will sit idle for years anyways as you will now be affected by the merit board.  Also everyone will know you got the course in the mo and wont respect you.  I didnt take my plq before coming regs as i wanted to earn it, instead of just filling a spot.  Something to think about.  Staying in the res after high school holds no actual benefits and if you can get on a reg f QL3 then do it as opposed to direct entry as you will make friends for life and be on an even footing when joinning a regiment.

Many of the PLQ's being run now are combined. They include Reservists and Regs on the same course. No shame in it.

Very true they are combined but you missed my point.  The reason you are there in the mo is most often that you were available at the time of the course and there was no one better that was due to school or other work commitments.  Where as earning it in the regs means that you have actually proved yourself ready to take on a leadership role.

Well, I've been to both sides and can tell you as fact that that happens in the Regs as well, and more often than you want to admit.

Well one of the boys in my unit was promoted a year after his CT. Because he had his JLC/JNCO and was switched on,  if he were to have left before getting it he would still be a Cpl.

And basically what is being said, correct me if I'm wrong, is that there is no actual benefits or gain in staying in the Militia for a little while to better understand that army? Instead... just jump right in head first Reg. Force? 

I'm pretty sure I am going to put my papers in after I finish my grade 12. I'd like to go RCD, is that possible for me to put in my preferable unit as well, or is that chosen by higher ups in Ottawa?
